Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), in collaboration with Bisnis Indonesia, hosted an engaging event titled “Bisnis Indonesia Goes to Campus” (BGTC) at the Conference Hall, 5th Floor of the ICT Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, Semarang, Jawa Tengah, on Monday (December 2, 2024). Targeting a young audience, particularly university students, the event aimed to enhance financial literacy and raise awareness about driving safety among students.
Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., UNDIP Rector, fully supported the 2024 BGTC event. He highlighted the importance of improving financial literacy among students. “There is a phenomenon called ‘High Earning Not Rich Yet’ (HENRY), which has become a global trend. Spending is often focused on consumption rather than on something that enhances competence,” explained the Professor of Human Resource Management.
Stefanus Arief Setiaji, Executive Editor of Bisnis Indonesia, stressed that understanding financial products and services is crucial for students. With the proliferation of various financial products and services, this knowledge is vital. “One of the most accessed financial activities among students today is online loans. According to data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), over 40% of Pay Later users are aged 20-40,” Stefanus shared.
However, the high number of digital credit users has yet to be matched by sufficient awareness of the responsibility to repay loans. Stefanus noted that, according to OJK data, the majority of non-performing loans in the digital lending sector come from young debtors.
“Financial management isn’t just about handling money; it’s about making wise financial decisions. By managing finances wisely and early, we become better prepared for unexpected circumstances,” Stefanus added.
The BGTC 2024 event at UNDIP featured interactive discussions with experts in their fields. Eko Usriyono, Financial Planner and CEO of Oke Financial, provided insights into financial management strategies for students; Nanang Harianto, Head of General Services at PT Bank Jago Tbk. (JAGO), discussed advancements in financial technology and features students can use to achieve their financial goals; and Oke Desiyanto, Analyst and Senior Safety Riding Instructor from Astra Motor Jawa Tengah presented material on the importance of understanding driving safety.
This collaboration exemplifies UNDIP’s commitment to preparing students not only academically but also for the practical challenges of financial management and personal safety in daily life.
