Without Applying Job, Shabrina, a Graduate of UNDIP Vocational School, Achieves a Career in the Nickel Mining Industry

With technological advancements, the recruitment process now increasingly leverages social media. Many large companies and modern industries have incorporated social media screening as a crucial step in selecting candidates. Social media is seen as a reflection of an individual’s image and professionalism, as experienced by Shabrina, a graduate of the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology (Teknologi Rekayasa Kimia Industri / TRKI) Program at the Vocational School of Universitas Diponegoro.

Shabrina secured a position at a nickel mining company in Sulawesi Tenggara by optimizing her LinkedIn profile. She shared that a Section Head of HRGA from the company contacted her via LinkedIn’s Direct Message (DM) feature after viewing her profile. “The user has initiated contact, and through the message, I sent my CV and provided a brief overview of my skills and certifications,” explained Shabrina, who graduated with a GPA of 3.94.

She expressed her gratitude, attributing her success to the competencies gained during her studies in the TRKI program at UNDIP. “During my studies, I had the opportunity to work as a lab assistant, which allowed me to share knowledge with other students. Additionally, the analytical thinking and problem-solving skills I acquired through the TRKI program became the foundation for developing my abilities,” she said.

Shabrina obtained several certifications during her studies, including ISO 9001:2016, ISO 14001:2018, ISO 45001:2018, SMK3, and training in Biodiesel Plant Engineering and Career Preparation. She also holds a certification as a Supervisor of Liquid Chemical Production Processes, which gives her a competitive edge in the job market.

To further enhance her competencies, Shabrina participated in additional training, such as HACCP, VACCP, TACCP Based on FSSC 22000 5.1 Version, and Full Stack Data Analysis training, which covered SQL, Python, Tableau, and Spreadsheet. She also advanced her expertise in Microsoft Excel to an advanced level.

“Previously, I worked as a freelance tutor, providing private chemistry lessons to high school students. Meanwhile, I consistently found time to attend various training sessions, not just related to my educational background but also to sharpen my skills in technology, such as coding, Tableau, and advanced Excel,” Shabrina elaborated.

Additionally, Shabrina collaborated with her academic supervisor to publish a research paper titled “Optimization of Sunflower Essential Oil Extraction (Helianthus Annus) Using Soxhletation Method with Factorial Design Experiment” in a journal. She regularly reviews her CV and updates her LinkedIn profile to increase her career prospects.

Shabrina’s recruitment process was relatively swift. Within two days, she underwent an integrated interview with HR and the user, completing assigned tasks in a short timeframe. Impressively, she went the extra mile by completing additional tasks beyond the user’s requests. “A few days later, I received the Offering Letter and completed other stages, such as the medical check-up and submission of administrative documents,” Sabrina shared.

Everyone has their own time to shine. The most important thing is to keep learning, never give up, and be willing to take risks,” concluded Shabrina, encouraging fellow graduates. (Endy-SV; ed. DHW)
