UNDIP, Semarang, (February 8) – The Chairman of the Indonesian Professors’ Tennis Association (Asosiasi Tenis Profesor Indonesia / ATPI) for the 2025-2029 period, together with Acting Governor of Jawa Tengah, Komjen Pol (Purn) Drs. Nana Sudjana A.S., M.M., officially inaugurated the ATPI Secretariat at the UNDIP Tembalang campus on Saturday, February 8, 2025. The newly established permanent ATPI Secretariat aims to enhance the development and promotion of tennis in Indonesia, particularly among professors who are passionate about the sport.
The inauguration took place following the official appointment of UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., as the Chairman of ATPI for the 2025-2029 period. His inauguration was held during a Gala Dinner at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja Building, Governor of Jawa Tengah Office Complex, on Friday, February 7, 2025. The event was attended by 96 professors from 36 universities across Indonesia.
Acting Governor Nana Sudjana expressed his appreciation for the establishment of ATPI, highlighting the significance of a tennis association composed of university professors nationwide. He emphasized that ATPI could play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing young tennis talents, ultimately leading to greater achievements in the sport. He also stressed the importance of regularly organizing tournaments and events to maintain professionalism in the field. Nana Sudjana has been entrusted as a member of the Advisory Board of the ATPI organization.
Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, the newly elected ATPI Chairman, noted that many ATPI members are university rectors. He hopes that these leaders will actively develop athletic programs on their respective campuses. “This association can serve as an initiative for talent scouting during university admissions through the Seleksi Bibit Unggul Berprestasi (SBUB) / Selection of Excellent Student program. To achieve this, we must provide more facilities and organize more competitors,” Suharnomo stated.
He further emphasized the role of higher education institutions in contributing to Indonesian tennis while promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering collaboration among universities.
“We hope the ATPI Secretariat will become a platform for channeling tennis hobbies and talents. With these facilities, we are optimistic that university rectors and ATPI members can further develop and popularize tennis on a larger scale,” Prof. Suharnomo added.
The ATPI Secretariat inauguration was part of the broader agenda of the ATPI Board inauguration for the 2025-2029 period. In addition to the ATPI Secretariat opening at the UNDIP Tembalang, a Tennis Festival was also held from February 8-9, 2025. The festival took place across nine tennis courts at UNDIP, UNIMUS, and Tri Lomba Juang. (Ut-media relations)
