UNDIP, Semarang (May 5, 2025) – In the spirit of commemorating Indonesia’s National Education Day 2025, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held a solemn flag ceremony at the Widya Puraya Field, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, on Monday morning, May 5, 2025. The event served as a reflective moment for the university community to reaffirm its commitment to quality education that brings real impact to society.
UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., led the ceremony and delivered a formal address, which included reading the official speech from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D.
In a speech titled “Universal Participation to Achieve Quality Education for All,” Minister Brian encouraged the public to treat National Education Day not merely as a ceremonial occasion but as a moment of reflection.
“Today, we commemorate National Education Day 2025 with enthusiasm and hope. But beyond the ceremony, this observance urges us to pause, look at the world honestly, and ask ourselves: in which direction are we heading?” Minister Brian stated in his opening remarks.
He emphasized that education remains the most fundamental response to contemporary global challenges—from climate change and economic inequality to the disruptions caused by artificial intelligence. To face these challenges, the Ministry outlined five core principles guiding the future of education in Indonesia: focusing on outcomes and impact, promoting solution-oriented research, developing applicable science, strengthening downstream innovation for public welfare, and upholding accountable evaluation.
As part of its efforts to strengthen the higher education ecosystem, the Ministry launched a new initiative: “Diktisaintek Berdampak” (Impactful Higher Education, Science, and Technology). This initiative aligns closely with UNDIP’s long-held spirit reflected in its tagline: “UNDIP, Noble and Valuable.”
Responding to the launch, UNDIP Rector Prof. Suharnomo expressed appreciation and affirmation. “We are truly pleased that UNDIP has been echoing the very same values through our tagline. The five principles presented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology resonate deeply with UNDIP’s vision. This theme reinforces UNDIP’s commitment to supporting inclusive, impactful, and high-quality education,” he said.
The Rector reaffirmed UNDIP’s ongoing efforts to transform higher education through improved teaching quality, applicable research, and cross-sector collaboration. “A spirit of collaboration and broad participation is key to building higher education that not only excels but delivers tangible benefits for the nation’s progress,” he added.
In closing his remarks, Prof. Suharnomo called on the entire academic community to continue contributing with passion, dedication, and a strong sense of purpose for the greater good. “Through collaboration and innovation, let us strengthen our higher education ecosystem. May this be the driving force for all UNDIP members to embody dignity and truly create meaningful impact,” he concluded.
This year’s National Education Day serves as a reminder that the responsibility for education lies not only with the government. Achieving equitable, high-quality education that addresses contemporary challenges requires the synergy and participation of all elements of the nation. (DHW)
