UNDIP, Batang (October 8, 2025) – The Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) Off-Campus Management Agency (BPK2U), in collaboration with PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Modern Closed House Poultry Farm on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the BPK2U area in Tumbrep, Bandar District, Batang Regency. This IoT-based Modern Closed House Poultry Farm is a grant from PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia to the UNDIP Off-Campus Management Agency (BPK2U).
The construction of this Modern Closed House Poultry Farm aims to: facilitate access for lecturers and students to conduct research; provide education to the local community in Tumbrep Village, Batang Regency, on modern broiler farming methods using Internet of Things (IoT) technology; and support food security programs while helping farmers manage broiler farms more effectively and efficiently.
Following the groundbreaking, construction will begin immediately and is expected to be completed within three months. From the building materials to the technology used, this modern poultry house differs significantly from conventional chicken coops. While traditional coops are generally open and made of wood, the Modern Closed House uses permanent enclosed walls and IoT-based monitoring systems to manage poultry parameters.
The Modern Closed House Poultry Farm consists of two floors: the first floor will serve as a medium for Smart Farming development in line with IoT technological advancements. In contrast, the second floor will function as a control and balancing unit to improve cost and labor efficiency, making operations more financially sustainable.
The two-story facility will accommodate 16,000 broiler chickens within an area of 9 x 72 meters. Importantly, it will help minimize chicken mortality compared to conventional poultry houses.
According to Andi Magdalena Siadari, Secretary-General of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, this is the third grant given to UNDIP—two modern poultry houses were previously built at UNDIP’s Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences in Semarang, and one at BPK2U Batang. The Batang facility’s proximity to the community allows residents to directly benefit from hands-on learning. Moreover, this Modern Closed House is equipped with Artificial Intelligence-based information technology to educate vocational school students and youth organizations (Karang Taruna).
Muhammad Najib, Head of Tumbrep Village, expressed his gratitude to UNDIP and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia for their attention to the local community through this initiative, which supports residents in becoming better prepared for poultry farming businesses. He said, “This is the first of its kind here, as we previously only had layer farms. In the future, the young generation of Tumbrep Village can adopt the knowledge and become broiler entrepreneurs. The benefits are also practical—during community events, residents can access poultry products at lower prices since the facility is close to home.”
Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Waluyo Hadi Eko Prasetiyono, M.S., M.Agr., IPU, Head of the UNDIP Off-Campus Management Agency (BPK2U), expressed his hope that the community will gain accurate knowledge of broiler farming methods, thereby contributing to national food security efforts.
UNDIP’s collaboration with PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia in building this Modern Closed House Poultry Farm also supports the second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), Zero Hunger, by enhancing food security through improved nutrition and sustainable agricultural practices.
