UNDIP, Sumatra (December 12, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) conducted cross-sectoral coordination for disaster response in the Sumatra region following floods that affected several areas. UNDIP held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, the Mayor of Padang, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) of Agam Regency, the Agam Regency Health Office, Palembayan Community Health Center, the Head of LPPM of Universitas Andalas, Universitas Andalas Health Post, the Faculty of Public Health of Universitas Andalas, the Head of LPPM of UNP (Universitas Negeri Padang) and the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Medicine UNP, Poltekkes Padang, and PERSAGI (Indonesian Nutritionists Association).
The coordination meeting focused on mapping health needs, aid distribution routes, and the conditions of survivors in affected areas. It also aimed to align mitigation measures, preparedness, rapid response, and post-disaster recovery efforts across all affected and high-risk areas.
Prof. dr. Achmad Zulfa Juniarto, M.Si.Med., MMR., Sp.And(K), Chair of UNDIP Disaster Volunteer Team II, stated, “Cross-sectoral collaboration is the key to accelerating disaster response.”
“Given that Sumatra has diverse geographical characteristics and varying disaster vulnerabilities, strong coordination along with adequate facilities and supporting assistance is expected to ensure that every field response is carried out quickly, accurately, and in a measured manner,” Prof. Zulfa added.
Rapid and targeted responses were implemented through several efforts. First, Psychosocial Support: the psychosocial team assisted at two temporary shelters. A total of approximately 20 survivors were assisted, including children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. The support included emotional stabilization, assessment of psychological needs, and recovery activities.
Second, Health Services were delivered, with the medical team providing healthcare services at the Palembayan Community Health Center. The services included general medical examinations and coordination with the local health center.
Third, the team conducted an Analysis of Urgent Needs in the Field. There remains a shortage of protein-rich food such as eggs, canned fish, milk, and processed meat in the Palembayan area. In addition, there is a continued need for medical supplies and fundamental medicines, as demand remains high. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Aqil ed. Ut)
