UNDIP, Jakarta (5/12) – On Friday, December 5, 2025, Aslama Nanda Rizal, a lecturer from the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), had the opportunity to serve as one of the speakers at the launch of the book “Revisiting Jakarta–Moscow: The History of Indonesia–Russia Diplomacy, Political Economy, Military, Education, and Culture.” The event took place at the Residence of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta. It was attended directly by His Excellency Ambassador Sergei Tolchenov.

The book is a collection of essays resulting from the Project-Based Learning course in Historical Journalism at the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro.

At the event, Aslama also presented a talk titled “Russia–Indonesia Educational Cooperation (in Historical Perspective),” which described the development of higher education cooperation between the Republic of Indonesia and the Russian Federation since the Soviet era.

He explained that the late 1950s to early 1960s marked the peak of educational cooperation, including the Youth and Students Festival in Moscow attended by Indonesian student delegations, the establishment of the Peoples’ Friendship University in Russia that hosted students from various countries including Indonesia, as well as support in the form of educational facilities and buildings for universities in Indonesia, particularly during the era of President Sukarno and the Soviet Union’s top leader, Nikita Khrushchev.

The Embassy of the Russian Federation organized the event in the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Russia–Indonesia Friendship Community (Koper Rusindo).

The forum opened opportunities for further research on the historical diplomatic relations between the two countries and the potential for future collaboration between the Russian Embassy in Indonesia and Universitas Diponegoro. (Public Communication/UNDIP-FIB/Aslama; Ed. Nurul)
