UNDIP and NTU Singapore Discuss Talent Development and International Scholarship Opportunities for Students

UNDIP, Semarang (8/5) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) welcomed a delegation from Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) during the NTU–UNDIP Talent Development Discussion 2026 on Friday, May 8, 2026. The meeting served as a strategic platform for both institutions to discuss strengthening international collaboration, particularly in talent development, postgraduate education, and global human resource development.

The NTU delegation was led by Maliki Osman, Senior Advisor (ASEAN and Flagship Programmes) at the NTU President’s Office and former Second Minister for Education of Singapore. Also attending was Lydia Helena Wong, Director of Global Alliance of Industries @ NTU (GAIN).

The delegation was received directly by UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., accompanied by Prof. Hadiyanto, Director of Reputation, Partnership, and Global Connectivity (RKKG) at UNDIP, and Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, Deputy Head of UNDIP’s International Office.

During the discussion, the NTU delegation introduced a new initiative called the Indonesia–NTU Singapore TalEnt Programme (INSTEP), a fully funded scholarship program jointly financed by NTU Singapore and LPDP for 200 Indonesian undergraduate graduates to pursue Master’s degrees at NTU Singapore.

The INSTEP program offers comprehensive financial support, including a monthly allowance. It focuses on strategic fields relevant to future global challenges, such as food security, energy, sustainability, digital transformation, and national resilience.

UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., welcomed the collaboration opportunity as part of UNDIP’s commitment to expanding international networks and opening pathways for global-scale student talent development. According to him, international collaboration is a crucial step toward strengthening the quality of Indonesian human resources and enhancing their adaptability to global challenges.

In addition to discussing postgraduate education opportunities, NTU also expressed interest in expanding academic collaboration with UNDIP through various human resource development initiatives and international activities. One proposal discussed was organizing seminars or dialogue sessions with UNDIP undergraduate students to introduce the INSTEP program more broadly to potential candidates.

The meeting was held in a warm, productive atmosphere, serving as an initial step toward strengthening institutional ties between UNDIP and NTU Singapore. This collaboration is expected to create broader international partnership opportunities and reinforce both institutions’ contributions to developing outstanding talent across Southeast Asia and globally.

Through strengthening international networks, UNDIP continues to uphold the spirit of “Noble and Valuable UNDIP” by delivering higher education that creates meaningful contributions to society and the global community. Collaborative initiatives with world-class universities also reflect UNDIP’s commitment to strengthening its position as a World-Class University (WCU), excelling in education, research, innovation, and internationally competitive human resource development.
