UNDIP Appointed as Host of PIMNAS 2026, Strengthening Its Position as a University Driving Student Innovation

UNDIP, Semarang (19/5) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has once again received national recognition after being appointed as the host of the 39th “Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional” (PIMNAS) 2026, or the National Student Scientific Week. The appointment was officially stated in Letter No. 1644/DST/B2/DT.01.00/2026, dated May 14, 2026, issued by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.

This trust marks an important milestone for UNDIP, which has previously successfully hosted Indonesia’s most prestigious student scientific event twice—during the 11th PIMNAS in 1998 and the 27th PIMNAS in 2014. The return of PIMNAS to UNDIP further reinforces the university’s capacity to build a strong academic, innovation, and student competition ecosystem at the national level.

UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si. stated that being selected as host is not merely an institutional honor, but also a form of government trust in the university’s academic capacity and governance in supporting the development of Indonesia’s young talents.

“PIMNAS is not merely a student competition; it is a space where innovation, collaboration, and ideas for Indonesia’s future are born. UNDIP is ready to welcome participants from universities across the country with a collaborative spirit and a strong academic atmosphere. We aim to deliver a PIMNAS that is not only successful in execution but also leaves meaningful academic experiences and impacts on students,” said the UNDIP Rector.

Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Ir. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., emphasized that UNDIP would begin preparations across various areas, including infrastructure, accommodations, competition support systems, and the strengthening of an inclusive and productive academic environment.

He further explained that hosting the event presents its own challenges, as UNDIP’s focus will be divided between preparing as a host and striving for achievements as a competing delegation.

“UNDIP has extensive experience in organizing large-scale national scientific events. This appointment serves as motivation for us to present a high-quality, professional PIMNAS capable of strengthening the culture of research and innovation among Indonesian students,” he explained.

PIMNAS itself is the culmination of the Student Creativity Program (PKM) competition, bringing together Indonesia’s best student works in research, technology, community service, entrepreneurship, and futuristic ideas. The event serves as an important indicator of the quality of innovation and the scientific culture among students in Indonesian higher education institutions.

Thousands of participants from hundreds of universities across Indonesia who pass a rigorous selection process will participate in the Student Creativity Program (PKM). The competition covers at least nine major categories, including scientific research, social and humanities research, creative inventions, entrepreneurship, community service, technology application, innovative works, constructive idea videos, and futuristic ideas.

At PIMNAS 2025 in Makassar, Universitas Diponegoro achieved remarkable success at the 38th National Student Scientific Week, held at Universitas Hasanuddin, securing 4th place nationally with 14 medals. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Riri, edited by Nurul)
