UNDIP, Semarang (8/6) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held an Inauguration Ceremony for University Officials and the Oath-Taking of Academic Functional Positions at 10:00 a.m. in the Prof. Sudarto, S.H. Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, on Monday, June 8, 2026. The solemn ceremony was attended by the Chair of the Board of Trustees (MWA), the Chair of the Academic Senate, Vice Rectors, Deans, and university leaders. The inauguration began with the reading of appointment decrees for officials assigned additional leadership responsibilities and for lecturers appointed to academic functional positions.
The ceremony officially inaugurated 70 officials with additional assignments and 159 lecturers with academic functional positions. Following the oath-taking led by religious representatives, the event continued with the signing of the official oath documents by UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., witnessed by Prof. Ir. Tri Winarni Agustini, M.Sc., Ph.D., Chair of the Academic Senate, and Prof. Dr. Adian Fatchur Rochim, S.T., M.T., Vice Rector for Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal Affairs, and Organization.
In his address, the Rector emphasized that amid increasingly demanding performance indicators and international recognition targets, all university members—particularly newly appointed department heads, study program leaders, and lecturers holding functional positions—must strengthen their institutional commitment. The challenges posed by the Main Performance Indicators (IKU) for State Universities with Legal Entity Status (PTNBH) and the university’s World Class University (WCU) ambitions require a collective and strategic transformation of institutional governance.
“UNDIP’s ambition to enter the world’s top 550 universities next year requires a structured, extraordinary effort. We can no longer rely on only 35 percent of our lecturers actively publishing scientific articles. Through this inauguration, I urge Department Heads and Study Program Coordinators to mobilize institutionally, re-engaging the remaining 65 percent of colleagues so that academic productivity is distributed more evenly. Every semester should produce tangible academic outputs as evidence of competence and fulfillment of the Tridharma of Higher Education,” Prof. Suharnomo stressed.
The Rector further highlighted three key priorities for the future: improving on-time graduation rates, strengthening graduate quality through tracer study optimization, and enhancing global academic reputation through increased research productivity and scientific citations. He emphasized that achieving these targets should no longer depend on a small number of individuals but must become a collective institutional movement driven at the department and study program levels.
“Our success is now measured by very rigorous indicators, from learning systems that ensure students graduate on time with the required competencies to effective alumni management. Departments and study programs play a strategic role in strengthening tracer studies so that our graduates can succeed—whether in international employment, further study, or entrepreneurship with competitive income standards. We must build an academic ecosystem that is intentionally designed, not one that develops organically without measurable targets,” he explained.
The Rector also reminded the newly appointed officials that leadership roles and functional appointments represent both a trust and a calling as educators. “The additional assignments and functional positions entrusted today are both a responsibility and a calling. Let us reaffirm our commitment to giving our best selves for the future of our students. Remember that leadership is action, not position. Use the authority you now hold within your departments and study programs to demonstrate real leadership, manage resources effectively, and create meaningful progress for Universitas Diponegoro,” he added.
Closing the ceremony, the Rector encouraged all newly appointed officials and lecturers to view their responsibilities as a form of service and devotion to their students. This shared commitment is expected to help UNDIP become not only a globally recognized university but also an institution that generates substantial and meaningful impact for society.
