To realize a World Class University (WCU), the Faculty of Public Health, Diponegoro University (FKM Undip) held The 5th Summer Course Program with the theme Community Participation in Public Health: Public Health Coping and Adaptation Response to Climate Change in Coastal Areas. The 5th Summer Course will be held online from 4 to 12 July 2023 via the Zoom Meeting and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) platforms.
Dean of the Faculty of Public Health Undip, Dr. Budiyono, S.KM., M.Kes. officially opened the event and welcomed the Summer Course Program participants. “It is my pleasure to welcome you to The 5th Summer Course Program 2023, organized by the Faculty of Public Health, Diponegoro University. We have held this program every year since 2019. This year the 5th Summer Course Program carries the theme Community Participation in Public Health: Public Health Coping and Adaptation Response to Climate Change in Coastal Areas,” said Dr. Budiono at Tuesday’s Opening Ceremony for the Summer Course activity (04/07).
The Summer Course activity, which lasts for 8 (eight) days, aims to add to the participant’s experience on how to take action to deal with and respond to climate change towards public health in coastal areas and simultaneously introduce Indonesian culture and local wisdom.
“We invite various experts to present some interesting topics. Apart from lecturers from FKM Undip, we also invited experts from National Taiwan University, University Malaysia Sabah, several government agencies, international NGOs, and many more,” added Dr. Budiono.
This Summer Course activity will also significantly contribute to achieving the SDGs, namely good health and well-being, as well as several other goals related to public health. Apart from that, this Summer Course activity also supports the internationalization program of FKM Undip.
The 5th Summer Course was attended by 155 participants from 25 countries, including Nigeria, Malaysia, Pakistan, Rwanda, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Mali, Sudan, Australia, Philippines, India, Ivory Coast, Yemen, Gambia, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Italy, Thailand, Taiwan, France, United States, Timor Leste, and Tanzania.
Furthermore, Dr. Budiono hopes that the Summer Course participants can use this opportunity to discuss and collaborate among participants so that they can add to the participant’s knowledge and experience. “We hope that all participants will gain new knowledge from our speakers and sharing sessions between participants in this program. I hope all participants can enjoy and actively participate in this Summer Course program,” he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Head of the International Office Undip, Anggun Puspitarini Siswanto, S.T., Ph.D., also supports the 5th Summer Course activities. “We are delighted and fully support the Summer Course, which discusses how to take actions to deal with and respond to climate change to public health in coastal areas. We hope that this activity can increase friends’ knowledge about the impacts of climate change on coastal areas,” she said.
