Despite Her Father Being a Laborer, dr. Annisa Graduates from the Faculty of Medicine UNDIP with a GPA of 3.96

UNDIP, Semarang (February 8) – The journey of dr. Annisa Himmatul A., completing her studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), is truly inspiring. Coming from a modest background, Annisa has proven that hard work, perseverance, and a supportive academic environment can help students like her achieve their dreams. On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, she finally realized her goal of graduating and participated in UNDIP’s 177th graduation ceremony at Muladi Dome with an outstanding GPA of 3.96.

As the eldest of three siblings, Annisa grew up in a humble family that valued education. Her father worked as a laborer in a furniture store, while her mother was a seamstress.

Since childhood, Annisa had always dreamed of becoming a doctor. However, due to her family’s financial situation, she once considered giving up on her dream. It was during her 10th grade when she regained her motivation after seeing a senior secure a medical school scholarship. That moment convinced her that she, too, could achieve her dream.

She was grateful to be accepted into the Faculty of Medicine UNDIP, where she received the Bidikmisi scholarship—now known as the Indonesia Smart Card (Kartu Indonesia Pintar / KIP) scholarship—which covered her tuition fees and provided living expenses. However, this did not mean she could live extravagantly. To save money, Annisa walked from her dormitory at UNDIP’s Rusunawa to campus until classes shifted online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At UNDIP, Annisa found an inclusive and supportive academic environment. She felt encouraged not only by her friends but also by the faculty members who continuously motivated her.

“Alhamdulillah, I am so grateful to have met many friends who always supported me, both emotionally and in other aspects. Despite my different financial background, I never felt excluded. The lecturers were also incredibly supportive, teaching us wholeheartedly and motivating us to pursue further studies, whether in a master’s or specialist program,” she shared.

Annisa also acknowledged the crucial role of various elements in her learning process. “Without them, I wouldn’t be here today,” she said, expressing her deep gratitude to the “teachers”—the cadavers used for medical studies—and the patients who allowed her to learn during her clinical rotations.

When asked about the key to her academic success at the Faculty of Medicine UNDIP, Annisa emphasized the importance of self-awareness and effective study strategies. “You need to understand your capabilities, put in extra effort according to the material, and, of course, pray a lot,” she advised.

A diligent and high-achieving student since high school, dr. Annisa actively participated in both academic and extracurricular activities. Now that she has completed her studies, she is awaiting placement for her internship at the Ministry of Health, a crucial stage for medical graduates before they can practice professionally. “After my internship, I plan to work while preparing to continue my education at the master’s level,” she added.

Annisa’s story is a testament to the Faculty of Medicine UNDIP’s commitment to providing not only high-quality education but also comprehensive support for students, including scholarships, an inclusive academic atmosphere, and excellent learning facilities. UNDIP remains dedicated to producing graduates who are not only competent but also compassionate and professional in the medical field. (NH)
