UNDIP Patriot Expedition Team: Formulating Strategies for the Donggala Transmigration Area

UNDIP, Rio Pakava, Donggala Regency (September 26, 2025) – The Patriot Expedition is a program initiated by the Ministry of Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia as a strategic effort to develop transmigration areas based on local potential, social innovation, and collaborative governance. The program is expected to foster new economic growth centers in transmigration regions across Indonesia, including Donggala Regency, Sulawesi Tengah Province.

The leader of Team 1 for Donggala Regency, Dr. Dian Agus Widiarso, S.T., M.T., from Universitas Diponegoro’s Faculty of Engineering, headed the program with a primary focus on collecting data for evaluation and recommendations in the Lalundu–Bambakaenu Transmigration Area in Rio Pakava and Pinembani Districts, Donggala Regency. The process involved field surveys, focus group discussions with the community, and assessments of local potential covering physical and environmental, socio-cultural, economic, institutional, and infrastructure aspects.

According to Dr. Dian, this initiative extends beyond academic activities and represents a genuine form of community service. “We strive to present recommendations that are not only data-driven but also aligned with community needs. We hope the expedition’s report can serve as a guide for village and regional governments in developing the Lalundu–Bambakaenu transmigration area to be more competitive and sustainable,” he said.

The expedition’s results will be compiled into a Transmigration Area Evaluation and Recommendation Document. This document is expected to become a reference for village and regional governments in policymaking, spatial planning, and strengthening local economic institutions. With these recommendations, development in transmigration areas can be directed in a more inclusive, sustainable, and locally grounded manner.

The Patriot Expedition in Donggala also emphasizes the role of students as agents of change who not only conduct academic research but also engage directly with communities, listen to their needs, and provide knowledge-based solutions. Such collaboration is expected to enhance socio-economic resilience in transmigration regions and create new investment opportunities tailored to local conditions.

Through this program, the Ministry of Transmigration and universities aim to make the Lalundu and Bambakaenu transmigration areas a model for integrating local resources, social innovation, and institutional governance, enabling them to grow as new economic centers in Sulawesi Tengah. The joint program with the Ministry of Transmigration reflects UNDIP’s commitment to its vision “Noble and Valuable UNDIP” in line with the Ministry’s “Diktisaintek Berdampak” program. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ Patriot Expedition Team I Donggala ed.
