Ready to Respond to Accidents, UNDIP Holds First Aid Training

UNDIP, Semarang (December 10, 2025) – The Technical Implementation Unit for Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (UPT K3L) of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe and disaster-responsive campus environment. In collaboration with the Semarang City Health Office through the Ambulance Hebat 112 team, UPT K3L organized a capacity-building training for the emergency response team under the theme “First Aid Management for Accidents within the Campus Environment.” The training was held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Enviro Hall, 5th Floor, UNDIP Computer Engineering Laboratory Building.

The training was attended by dozens of participants, including education staff, security officers, and student volunteer representatives across Universitas Diponegoro. The primary focus of this activity was to equip the campus’s frontline responders with technical skills to handle emergencies, particularly traffic accidents and initial victim mobilization before professional medical help arrives.

Head of UPT K3L UNDIP, Dr. Bina Kurniawan, S.KM., M.Kes., emphasized the urgency of first-aid competency in his remarks. He highlighted that good intentions alone are not enough—first responders must be equipped with the proper knowledge to avoid worsening a victim’s condition.

“This training is significant for all members of the academic community when faced with urgent situations that require immediate victim handling, especially traffic accidents and other emergencies. Good intentions to help must be supported by precise technical understanding to avoid procedural errors, such as improper mobilization techniques for fracture victims, which may worsen their clinical condition,” he said.

Dr. Bina further expressed hope that UNDIP will eventually have an integrated emergency response system. “We hope the university can have a unified emergency call service similar to 112, enabling quick and precise access to emergency handling on campus,” he added.

The core session featured expert speakers from the Semarang City Health Office, including Wisnu Wardhana, S.Kep., Ns., CHt, and medical personnel from Ambulance Hebat 112. The material covered comprehensive theory and field practice on the Integrated Emergency Response System (SPGDT) as well as the emergency service innovations “Galaksi Bimasakti” and “Simpang Lima,” which emphasize cross-sector synergy.

During the technical material session, Wisnu Wardhana explained the basic principles of Basic Life Support (BLS), including assessing victim response (Alert, Verbal, Pain, Unresponsive), airway management techniques, and high-quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Participants also gained insight into Safety Driving principles and ambulance priority rules on the road.

The activity continued with intensive practical simulations guided by the Ambulance Hebat medical team. The valuable materials included:

  1. First Aid for Accidents (P3K): Helmet removal technique for motorcycle accident victims to prevent further neck injuries.
  2. Limb Injury Management: Splinting techniques for arm and leg fractures, arm sling application, and the use of neck collars for cervical spine stabilization.
  3. Evacuation and Transportation Techniques: Safe and ergonomic methods for lifting and transferring patients using stretchers to prevent additional spinal injuries.

The event reflects UNDIP’s strong dedication to fostering institutional synergy in creating a safe, healthy, and prosperous campus ecosystem. By enhancing human resource capacity in emergency response, the university not only ensures the safety of its academic community but also actively contributes to creating a sustainable and socially responsive educational environment. This strategic initiative demonstrates UNDIP’s commitment to delivering positive impact and the best service to humanity, in line with the spirit of “Noble and Valuable UNDIP.” (Public Communication/UNDIP/Riri)
