Lecturer at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University (Undip) Dr. Ir. Suryanti, M, Pi, Prof. Dr. Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Zainuri, DEA and FSM Lecturer (Dr. Eng. Agus Setyawan, M.Sc) have conducted a series of community empowerment programs in Kebumen Village. Banyubiru District, Semarang.
“I consider Kebumen Village to be a very potential village to be developed in several sectors. Especially in the sector of agriculture and fisheries. The condition of the land in Kebumen Village is very fertile, plus the supply of freshwater is very abundant, so it is very possible for the village of Kebumen to become a center for fisheries and agriculture in Banyubiru Subdistrict, “said Dr. Suryanti.
The Community Service Team collaborated with Undip’s Team I KKN 2019 students and was supported by the Village Head and Community of Kebumen Village that had been conducted since Saturday (2/2) at Kebumen Village Hall, in order to increase the potential of fisheries and agriculture through programs such as socialization, counseling, a training on making fish feed and probiotics, training in making hydroponics, managing waste to be used as compost and pesticides and providing seeds for 3100 catfish and parrotfish.
“This community empowerment activity does consist of many programs, in collaboration with Undip’s Team I 2019 KKN Student and supported by the Village Head and the Community for several programs that have been realized, namely training in making fish feed and natural probiotics, providing 3100 catfish and parrotfish seeds. And training in making hydroponic plants and utilizing organic waste to be used as compost and natural pesticides,” said Dr. Suryanti who was met after the counseling program.
Furthermore, these programs are suitable for increasing the potential of fisheries and agriculture in Kebumen Village. “For the fisheries sector, there are three programs that have become our focus, namely training in making fish feed and probiotics as well as providing assistance for 3100 catfish and parrotfish seeds which we got from the assistance of the Ambarawa Freshwater Hatchery and Culture Center for Fisheries and Marine Services. We designed the program in a vision of cultivating fish feed and probiotics as a vitamin for the fishes and the procurement of seeds is an important element to support the success of fish farming business, “he added.
The programs were welcomed by the Kebumen Village community, especially the Freshwater Fish cultivators. Some fish farmers even want to directly apply this natural probiotic to the fish they cultivate. “I want to try this probiotic so that the fish can grow quickly it takes a really long time for my catfish to grow, hopefully this probiotic can be the solution,” said Mr. Mukanan, a catfish pond owner and village official who was met after the extension. Added by the Kebumen Village Chief, he said that the provision of seed assistance was indeed needed by farmers even though the seeds of catfish and parrotfish were sold at several places in Kebumen Village. Procurement of seeds to start a fishery business indeed saps quite a lot of budget considering the price of fish seeds that are not cheap.
As for the agricultural sector, the program is given in the form of training in the manufacture of hydroponic plants and the use of waste for compost and pesticides.
“For the agricultural sector we have implemented a hydroponic planting training program utilizing plastic waste media. We are empowering this program for women farmer groups in Tegaron Wetan Hamlet, Kebumen Village. In addition to hydroponic training, another very useful program is processing waste to be used as compost and natural pesticides, “he said.
With the existence of a series of empowerment programs, Dr. Suryanti hopes that the potential of Kebumen village especially the fisheries and agriculture sectors can be more advanced so as to increase the economy of the residents of the Kebumen Banyubiru Village.
Supporting the Potential of Fisheries, Undip Provides Assistance for 3100 Catfish and Parrotfish Seeds in Kebumen Village, Banyubiru
As a form of support in the fisheries sector, Diponegoro University (Undip) in collaboration with the Manager of the Freshwater Fish Culture and Hatchery Center Ambarawa, Mr. Rokhan, provided 3100 parrotfish and catfish seedlings to freshwater fish farmers in Kebumen Banyubiru Village, Semarang on Sunday (2/2) at the Village Hall of Kebumen Village.
The assistance of fish seedlings was given as one of the community empowerment programs conducted by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Lecturer Undip Dr. Ir. Suryanti, M, Pi along with students guided by KKN Undip’s Team I. Fish seed assistance was received directly by the Kebumen Village Chief, Mr. H. Partono, who would then be channeled to people who owned freshwater fish farming.
In his remarks Dr. Suryanti said that the provision of seeds was one of the efforts to advance the fisheries sector in Kebumen Village. “The provision of seed assistance is expected to be able to help fish farmers in Kebumen Village to advance further, especially Kebumen Village which is a village that has great potential in the fisheries sector because it has an abundant fresh water supply,” he said.
“In cultivating fish, the procurement factor of seeds is an important element besides water quality and the fish feed. Therefore, we strive to provide seed filled with the best quality with the hope of improving the success of fishing effort in the Kebumen Village, Banyubiru. We would also like to thank the Central Java Province’s Office of Fisheries and Marine Affairs for sponsoring us in procuring these seeds, “Dr. Suryanti.
The village head of Kebumen said that the provision of seedlings was indeed needed by farmers even though the seeds of catfish and parrotfish were sold at several points in Kebumen Village. Procurement of seeds to start a fishery business indeed saps quite a lot of budget considering the price of fish seeds that are not cheap.
She added that the fish seedlings will be distributed to several hamlets that have quite advanced fisheries potential. “These seeds will be given to several farmers in the hamlet who have potential fisheries such as Kayuwangi Lor Hamlet, Kayumas Hamlet and Krajan Hamlet,”
The provision of seeds is a series of community empowerment programs conducted by Dr. Suryanti along with Undip’s Team I KKN students after previously also conducted a training program for making fish feed and probiotics, training in Hydroponics and the use of organic waste to be used as compost and natural pesticides for women farmer groups. It is hoped that the implementation of several community empowerment programs will improve the prosperity of the people of Kebumen Village.
