FKM Undip Introduces OHS (K3) Month Festival

The Occupational safety and health (OHS) issues in general in Indonesia are still often overlooked. This is indicated by the high number of work accidents. In Indonesia, every seven seconds there is a case of work accident (“OHS is still underestimated,” Warta Ekonomi, 2 June 2006). This issue is certainly very alarming. The level of concern of the business world towards OHS are still low despite of the fact that employees are important assets of the company. For this reason, it is necessary to optimize the OHS culture in companies in Indonesia so that a productive work environment could be created which will make it employees to work more optimally.

The OHS Month is a form of government effort in optimizing the OHS culture in Indonesia as well as the reminder of launch anniversary of Law No. 1 of 1970 which is commemorated for a month; from 12 January to 12 February simultaneously throughout Indonesia. To commemorate the OHS Month, the OHS Forum of FKM Undip presents the OHS Month Festival which aims to enliven the OHS month and introducing as well as providing information regarding OHS Month to public. The activity was held on Sunday, February 16, 2020 06.00 – 09.00 WIB in coincide with Car Free Day which took place in the front yard of the Provincial Social Service Building of Central Java.

The OHS Month Festival begins with Gymnastics participated with 150 participants consisting of students and the communities around Car Free Day. Various remarks were given by the National OHS Council member, Mrs. Hanifa Maher Denny, S.KM, MPH, Ph.D, the  Representatives from Manpower and Transmigration Mrs. Budi Prabawaning Dyah, SH , MH as plt. of Head Supervisor of Central Java Manpower and Transmigration Office, Mr. Budiyono, S.KM., M.Kes as the Dean of FKM Undip, continued with the ceremony of the OHS Month with a symbolic release of balloons, a long march around the Five Intersections by OHS students from Undip, Unimus, Udinus and Unnes. There also a health check service for communities around Five Intersections that includes a check of blood sugar, uric acid, blood pressure and weight with 40 participants who are community around Car Free Day. The event closed with an OSHCUSTIC performance and door prize distribution.

With the introduction of OHS Month Festival, it is hoped that the community will be more aware of OHS and will implement OHS Culture in their daily lives.
