Chemistry IUP of Faculty of Science and Mathematics UNDIP Prepares International Standard Graduates

Semarang – Chemistry Study Program of Faculty of Science and Mathematics Dipongeoro University (UNDIP) prepares international standard graduates through IUP (International Undergraduate Program). IUP program is equal to undergraduate program that prepares graduates to enter the global market, and it is open to both Indonesian and foreign students.

To get a Bachelor of Chemistry in IUP, students must complete 144 credits, including one semester of sit-in program in the European Union and Malaysia universities in partnership with Undip for IUP. The study period for the international class is around 4 years, but it can be taken faster for students who have more abilities and achievements.

The Dean of Faculty of Science and Mathematics Undip, Prof. Dr. Widowati, S.Si., M.Si., said that Department of Chemistry Undip has began to open IUP since academic year of 2018/2019. For the academic year of 2020/2021, Chemistry IUP Undip only accepts 25 students. “Although there are no graduates yet, since it is united with Chemistry Undergraduate Study Program, the accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Higher Education is the same, namely Accreditation A,” said Prof. Widowati, on Friday (19/3/2021).

According to Widowati, Undergraduate Study Programs of Faculty of Science and Mathematics Undip which was founded in 1993 has held Accreditation A based on Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education No. 3436/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/XII/2018 on December 20th 2018. The accreditation is valid until December 20th 2023.

The vision of Chemistry IUP Undip is similar with vision of Chemistry Undergraduate Study Program, it is to become a Center for Research and Education in Chemistry and Its Applications. The focus of development are natural materials and biomolecules, materials and processes, as well as energy systems and environment. The Department of Chemistry is committed to produce graduates with competitive skills in enhancing human dignity, and for IUP graduates there are additional international qualifications.

As a higher education institution, there is an obligation to produce graduates with high academic abilities in an academic culture that upholds tolerance of differences in order to support self-development in midst of demands of advancement in chemistry sciences. Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Mathematics Undip also strives to conduct reliable research in chemistry field which results can be applied in education sector, to develop industry, and to have joint collaboration with both national and international institutions.

Head of Department of Chemistry Undip, Prof. Dr. Dra. Dwi Hudiyanti, M.Sc, said that the work unit she leads also continues to realize the vision of being a center for excellent research in the field of chemistry through intensive, creative, and innovative researches and developments. Community service is also carried out by providing services to the community through the application of chemical principles and research results.

To assist the learning process, a university library, faculty library, and internet connection are provided. Department of Chemistry currently has 3 professors from a total of 34 permanent lecturers, of which 52 percent have doctoral degrees, 30 percent are masters, and 18 percent are doctoral candidates.

Several awards won by Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Mathematics Undip include Gold Medal of Advanced Innovation Global Competition (AIGC) 2019 organized by American Society of Sciences and Arts Convergence (ASSAC) and Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association at Nanyang Technological University; then Gold Medal of Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention Innovation and Technology Exposition (IPITEx) 2019 from NRCT (National Research Council of Thailand) Bangkok, Thailand; being 1st Winner of National Essay Competition held by MEF (Mechanical Education Festival) Sebelas Maret University Surakarta in 2019; being a Finalist of National Competition of The Most Outstanding Students 2018; Gold Medal from 21st Moscow International Inventions and Innovative Technology Salon “Archimedes” 2018; and World Young International Exhibition 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
