UNDIP Team Wins First Place in MDC Cup 2025 Home Tournament

UNDIP, Semarang (August 2, 2025) – A festive and sportsmanlike atmosphere filled the MDC Cup (Medical Double Championship) Home Tournament, held Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at the UNDIP Rusunawa Tennis Court in Tembalang, Semarang. The MDC Cup Home Tournament serves as a gathering and achievement arena for doctors and academics who share a passion for tennis.

The exclusive tournament featured 20 doubles teams—10 from the UNDIP Tennis Club and 10 from the Indonesian Medical Tennis Association (Asosiasi Tenis Medis Indonesia / ATMI) representing various regions across Indonesia. Adding a unique twist, each pair’s combined age had to be at least 100 years, increasing both the challenge and appeal.

In the final, the duo of Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamari, S.T., M.T., IPU, ASEAN Eng., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UNDIP, delivered a solid performance to secure first place. The UNDIP team defeated the team of Dr. dr. Abdul Mughni, M.Si.Med., Sp.B.KBD, and Kombes Pol Purn dr. Aris, SpTHT-BKL, with a convincing 8-2 score.

Earlier, Prof. Suharnomo and Prof. Jamari fought a tense semifinal against Dr. dr. Hery Djagat Purnomo, Sp.P.D-KGEH, and Cuk Prihatmanto won dramatically through a tiebreak 8-7 (7-3).

Abdul Mughni and dr. Aris advanced to the final after defeating Mbah Dartoyo and Rahmawan PB in the other semifinal, 8-3. Both losing semifinalist pairs—Mbah Dartoyo/Rahmawan PB and Hery Djagat/Cuk Prihatmanto—shared third place.

One of the most anticipated and exciting matches took place in the quarterfinals, when Mbah Dartoyo and Rahmawan PB faced former SEA Games athlete Yusmawan Fahmi and Mbah Ranto. The match, though ending 8-3 in favor of Dartoyo/Rahmawan, stood out for its fast pace, high-level technique, and crowd-pleasing style, with Fahmi’s dynamic play captivating the spectators.

Tournament committee chair Abdul Mughni expressed pride and gratitude for the participants’ and audience’s enthusiasm. “Alhamdulillah, the MDC Cup 2025 ran smoothly, joyfully, and in a spirit of camaraderie. We truly appreciate the participation of all players from the UNDIP Tennis Club and ATMI who came from across the country. Even with a minimum combined age of 100 years per pair, the fighting spirit and quality of play were remarkable. This event proves that the passion for sports knows no age. We hope this tournament will continue as an annual tradition, strengthening ties between the academic and medical communities through tennis,” he said.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamari, S.T., M.T., IPU., ASEAN Eng., the Dean of UNDIP’s Faculty of Engineering and first-place winner alongside UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., also shared his appreciation. “We’re happy to take part and, of course, proud to win. But more than that, the atmosphere of togetherness was exceptional. Hopefully, tournaments like this will continue to be a healthy space to maintain fitness and strengthen collaboration across institutions and professions,” he said.

The tournament closed with a lively gathering and prize presentation. Spirit, friendship, and achievement were the three key words capturing the success of the MDC Cup 2025. See you at the next tournament! (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ Rmw ed. Ut)
