UNDIP Expert Receives Indohealthcare & GAKESLAB Expo 2025 Award: Appreciation for Advancing Ozone and Plasma Technology Commercialization

UNDIP, Jakarta (August 8, 2025) — Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) reaffirmed its standing as a research institution with real-world impact through the achievements of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA, a professor of physics at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics. Prof. Nur was honored at the prestigious Indohealthcare & GAKESLAB Expo 2025, held August 6–8, 2025, at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Kemayoran.

At the opening of this international-scale exhibition, Prof. Nur not only represented UNDIP as the keynote speaker in the Product Innovation session—presenting Ozone and Plasma technologies—but also received a distinguished award from GAKESLAB Indonesia and GOINDO for his role in accelerating the downstreaming and commercialization of plasma-based health technology research at UNDIP.

Notably, UNDIP was the only university to receive an award at the event, which was attended primarily by Health Polytechnics (Poltekkes) and representatives from the medical device industry, both from Indonesia and abroad. UNDIP’s participation underscored its consistent commitment as a research-driven university focused on applying research outcomes to support national development and strengthen Indonesia’s healthcare industry competitiveness.

The innovative Ozone and Plasma technologies represent a tangible synergy between academic research and the needs of industry and society. “We believe research outcomes should not stop in the laboratory. There must be continuity through downstreaming so the benefits can be felt directly by society. Our Ozone and Plasma technologies have now been applied in various fields, including medical device disinfection and waste treatment,” Prof. Nur said.

Indohealthcare & GAKESLAB Expo serves as an essential forum for strengthening collaboration and building an integrated national healthcare industry ecosystem with research and technology from universities. “UNDIP is honored to be part of such a large-scale event. This achievement demonstrates that academic innovations can compete with industry players and contribute to the development of a national innovation ecosystem. With this award, UNDIP reaffirms its role as a dignified and beneficial institution, in line with its vision of becoming a world-class research university with real contributions to national development,” Prof. Nur added in his remarks.

During the session, Prof. Nur presented leading research results and technologies that have been successfully downstreamed and commercialized, particularly Ozone and Corona Plasma technologies. These innovations not only highlight the strength of academic research but also demonstrate the effective use of technology in the health and environmental sectors.

“The medical plasma ozone technology we developed stems from concern over chronic wound treatment, especially for diabetic ulcers. This research has been developed over many years through UNDIP’s Center for Plasma Research (CPR) and is now in use at various healthcare facilities, including in Semarang City and Grobogan Regency,” Prof. Nur explained.

The technology has proven effective in accelerating diabetic wound healing. It is being used by medical personnel in several regions, including the “Fatchul Wound Care” team in Grobogan Regency, which is recognized for its practical application of plasma ozone therapy. According to Prof. Nur, the technology also has broader potential as an adjuvant treatment aligned with the Madrid Protocol 2020.

In addition to plasma ozone, Prof. Nur developed corona plasma technology capable of purifying air from microorganisms and viruses, offering an innovative solution for improving indoor air quality in spaces such as hospitals, community health centers, and public facilities.

Indohealthcare & GAKESLAB Expo 2025 is the largest medical equipment and healthcare industry innovation exhibition in Indonesia, this year adopting the theme “Integrated Healthcare Industries.” The event brought together more than 60 companies and institutions from 12 countries—China, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Germany, Malaysia, Pakistan, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United States—showcasing the latest technologies and products in healthcare, laboratory equipment, and medical devices.

More than just an exhibition, the Expo also serves as a strategic collaboration forum for cross-sectoral partnerships between industry, academia, government, and the public, both nationally and internationally. Its agenda included the GAKESLAB Indonesia National Working Meeting, policy and regulatory seminars on medical devices, dialogues on export opportunities for small and medium enterprises in the healthcare sector, as well as children’s health education, CSR programs, and healthy lifestyle campaigns.

UNDIP’s presence and the recognition from GAKESLAB and GOINDO stand as proof of the vital role universities play in creating innovative, applicable technologies while fostering national self-reliance in the healthcare sector. UNDIP remains committed to transforming knowledge into real solutions, in line with its vision of being a noble and valuable university. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ DHW)
