Increase Capability of Education Staff: UNDIP Held Simple Journalism Training for Website Content

“Simple Journalism Training for Website Content aims to provide knowledge on website article writing and optimization techniques, image capture techniques, how to manage website and social media content, as well as how to maximize article searches on search engines”. This was conveyed by the Head of Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of Diponegoro University, Mochamad Arief Budihardjo, S.T., M.Eng.Sc, Env.Eng, Ph.D, in a training which was held online (29/3).

“We hope that this training can provide benefits and make it easier to present news or articles to encourage publication on the www.undip.ac.id page. The website is a forum for Undip to convey information as well as provide information,” he said.

In her material, Utami Utami Setyowati, S.S., M.I.Kom, as Undip’s Manager of Integrated Services and Public Relations said that Information Management is the collection, storage, management, and maintenance of data and various types of information. While the Content Management System is a software system on the website that is used to create and manage various features and pages on the site.

“To report an incident, journalists have a reference or criteria called news values. In conveying academic information, student affairs, activities, achievements and so on related to Undip, writers need to have guidelines or criteria, called information values,” she explained.

According to her, the information that will be uploaded on the website must have essential properties. Information about an activity is conveyed appropriately. Correctly mention the day, time and place of activity; correctly write the name and position or rank of a person; write down the sequences of the activity in detail; and precisely mention the parts that need to be highlighted and which parts to follow so the activities are fully described.

Meanwhile, Agus Widyanto (Managing Partner of avadAta Strategic Communication) discussed the technique of making articles and taking photos for news. He explained news articles or texts are journalistic products made based on the reconstruction of reality for publicity needs in the mass media. In the current context, news is also needed to fill in websites or pages of institutions/organizations/corporations; in addition to mass media both online, print, radio and television.

“News photos or commonly called photojournalism are products of journalism to describe an event in the form of photos and images or their combination,” he concluded.

The speaker at the last session, Mochamad Idris, S.Kom., M.Kom (Undip IT Section) explained the material including how to get quality back-links, including creating interesting content, guest posts, broken link building; imitating competitor back-links; and utilizing content sharing platforms (Medium, Quora, Kompasiana). Back-links are one of the important factors in SEO. Basically a back-link is a link on a web page that points to another site. (Lin – Public Relations).
