UPT Library and UNDIP Press Held Workshop on Strategic Role of Higher Education Publishers in Building Excellent Academic Book Publishers

In order to support the achievement of IKU PTNBH in 2022 and the vision to become World Class University, as well as to improve the quality and competence of lecturers and education staff with the output of increasing book publishing, UPT Library and UNDIP Press held a Publishing Workshop with a theme “Strategic Role of Higher Education Publishers in Building Excellent Academic Book Publishers”. The event was held on Tuesday (18/10) in Room 304 of Prof. Dr. Satjipto Rahardjo Building, Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University.

In his remarks, Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M. Hum. conveyed one of the media to share knowledge is through books, both digital and non-digital. Books have an important role as a source of knowledge.

Present as a speaker, Suharyanto, S.Sos., M.Hum. (National Library of the Republic of Indonesia) gave an explanation about “Policy Services Regarding ISBN”. He conveyed that ISBN data provides an indication of the size of the publishing market in a country and is a means of validating data from other sources such as library material selection activities.

“Based on ISBN Service Data at the National Library of 2021, the distribution of publishers in Indonesia includes the number of publishers in the territory of Indonesia as many as 6,502 publishers. Meanwhile, of the 37 provinces in Indonesia, only one province does not yet have a publisher, namely Bangka Belitung Province. Meanwhile, there are 12 provinces whose publishers are evenly distributed in all regencies/cities, namely West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Riau, Jambi, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, South Kalimantan, North Kalimantan,” he explained.
