Groundbreaking Ceremony for PSDKU Lecture Building: UNDIP’s Commitment to Providing Quality Higher Education Access in Rembang

UNDIP, Rembang (15/2) — Universitas Diponegoro marked the beginning of the continued construction phase of the lecture building for the Off-Campus Study Program (PSDKU) in Rembang through a groundbreaking ceremony held on Sunday, February 15, 2025, at the PSDKU Rembang campus site. This activity reflects UNDIP’s commitment to strengthening equitable access to quality higher education in Rembang. Currently, UNDIP manages Off-Campus Study Programs (PSDKU) in three regencies: Batang, Pekalongan, and Rembang.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by UNDIP leaders and their spouses, local government representatives, development partners, and members of the academic community. In his remarks, UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., stated that the planned five-story building is part of UNDIP’s commitment to providing inclusive, equitable, and competitive educational services.

“PSDKU UNDIP aims to bring higher education access closer to communities in the regions. The construction of this lecture building symbolizes UNDIP’s seriousness in providing representative facilities and infrastructure to support quality learning processes,” he said. “To realize competitive and high-quality higher education, UNDIP collaborates with local governments to support and position UNDIP as the primary choice and a solution in addressing community challenges,” he added.

The Regent of Rembang, H. Harno, S.E., expressed gratitude to UNDIP for its contribution to human resource development in the region. The presence of UNDIP’s PSDKU is expected to encourage local economic growth, provide educational opportunities for local high school and vocational school graduates, and strengthen collaboration between universities and local governments.

In his report, Ari Eko Widyantoro, S.T., M.Si., as the Commitment-Making Officer, provided an overview of the building project. The project is part of Universitas Diponegoro’s commitment to strengthening equitable access to quality higher education, particularly in Rembang Regency and surrounding areas.

He further explained that the lecture building is planned to be a five-story structure, although the current construction phase will initially realize three floors. Each floor will have an area of approximately 850 square meters to support academic activities and other higher education Tri Dharma functions. The building will include 16 classrooms, discussion rooms, and a library. The structure will use reinforced concrete construction with a minipile foundation, designed to ensure the building’s strength and safety in accordance with local soil conditions. The foundation work has already been completed despite weather-related challenges.

The lecture building will include modern classrooms, supporting laboratories, faculty offices, administrative spaces, and other supporting facilities. Construction is targeted for completion on July 16, 2026, approximately seven months after the start of implementation on December 19, 2025, and is expected to be utilized by students in the upcoming academic year.

Since the establishment of UNDIP’s PSDKU in Batang, Pekalongan, and Rembang, the initiative has become one of the university’s strategies to expand access to higher education while addressing the need for professional human resources across various strategic sectors. With adequate infrastructure support, learning, research, and community service activities are expected to run more optimally.

The groundbreaking of the PSDKU Rembang lecture building is not merely a physical development project but also symbolizes a shared commitment to building the future of younger generations through excellent, competitive, and sustainable education. (Public Communication/UNDIP/Ut)
