UNDIP Teaching Movement Program Volume X has been Successfully Organized as an Implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely Education and Teaching at 10 Drop Points

Diponegoro University as one of the educational institutions in Central Java, precisely in the city of Semarang, has proven its capability as one of the best universities in Indonesia. Not only in terms of education at the university, but also in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely Education and Teaching, Research and Development, and Community Service. One of the things that have been mentioned earlier, namely Community Service, has been implemented by Diponegoro University with the presence of the Undip Teaching Movement work program by the Community Social Affairs BEM Undip. Thus the presence of this program can also have a broad impact on the Indonesian people like the slogan “For Undip and Indonesia”. The Undip Teaching Movement, or GUM (Gerakan Undip Mengajar) for short, has been running for ten years in 2022, and this year it is named Undip Teaching Movement Volume X. This year, the Undip Teaching Movement has the theme “Move Together to Educate the Nation in Realizing Indonesia’s Golden Generation 2045”.

The Undip Teaching Movement Volume X aims to provide educational teaching to elementary school children in the red zone of education, with the main problem of unequal education. The Undip Teaching Movement is trying to get into this situation and trying to solve the problem. This work program also functions as a forum for Diponegoro University students to provide benefits to the surrounding community, with community services, which focuses on education and teaching to elementary school children.

The Undip Teaching Movement, in addition to educating elementary school children, also introduces Diponegoro University especially to the people in the drop-off areas.

The Undip Teaching Movement continues to produce new innovations every year, which are still centered on education and teaching. For example, the Undip Teaching Movement Volume VII, 2019, was held in the Banjarnegara area. They have been successful in defending SD 1 Legoksayem and SD 4 Jatilawang from plans for permanent closure as well as advocating for the Disdikpora of Banjarnegara Regency, so that the schools that became drop-off points could receive infrastructure, student and staffing assistance. Undip Teaching Movement Volume VIII was held in the first year of Covid-19 pandemic. Undip Teaching Movement in collaboration with the Health Service held free Swab tests for GUM volunteers, as well as inviting regional organizations to collaborate in advancing education in their area. In 2021, the Undip Teaching Movement Volume IX managed to teach directly in elementary schools again by implementing strict health protocols. In 2022, Undip Teaching Movement Volume X celebrated a decade since the implementation of the Undip Teaching Movement by adding work program innovation at 10 drop points on a national basis. These drop points are spread from:

  1. Semarang (SDN Mendongan)
  2. Brebes (SDN Janegara 02)
  3. Tegal (MI Nurul Hikmah)
  4. Demak (SDN 02 Harjowinangun)
  5. Banyumas (SDN 02 Sokawera)
  6. Bondowoso (SDN Sumber Kalong)
  7. Lamongan (SDN 02 Sekidang)
  8. Kuningan (SDN 02 Koreak)
  9. Cianjur (SDN Sedamukti)
  10. Bontang (SD Nurul Iman)

The Undip Teaching Movement Volume X was successfully carried out in July-August, precisely on July 25, 2022 – August 10, 2022. Before the deployment, volunteers from GUM conducted a survey to find out which schools were suitable for the drop point in each region. Undip Teaching Movement Volume X also collaborated with one of the largest NGOs in the field of education, namely the Village Teaching Movement or GMD (Gerakan Mengajar Desa), in its one decade anniversary.

The response from the community and elementary school children at each of the drop points was very good. They welcome anyone, including GUM volunteers, who want to spread the benefits of education to them. The children there loved it when the GUM volunteers visited them. They become more active in learning, getting new knowledge, and so on. They become more active in learning, both formal and informal learning, with programs such as nature classes, afternoon classes, formal classes, home visits, and so on.

Dr. Eng. Agus Setyawan, S.Si., M.Si. as Deputy Academic Director of Diponegoro University stated that the Undip Teaching Movement Volume X has succeeded in making Diponegoro University one of the tertiary institutions that implement the Tri Dharma of higher education. The implementation itself is by the existing field, as is the case with the deployment at various points, which is in line with the MBKM program. Diponegoro University supports the Undip Teaching Movement Volume X because the program has the same vision and mission as the Teaching Campus program. In addition, the added value in Undip Teaching Movement program Volume X is that GUM is trying to expand the scale of its deployment, which was previously only in the Central Java Region, now it is expanding outside Central Java and outside Java Island.

The Chief Executive of the Undip Teaching Movement Volume X, Alfola Zola who is an Industrial Engineering student class of 2021 hoped that the Undip Teaching Movement Volume X, which expanded the scale of deployment to the national level, could accommodate Undip students to serve in their respective regions during online lectures. We would also like to be able to make even a small contribution to elementary school education at the point where the Undip Teaching Movement Volume X is implemented.

With the completion of the deployment agenda last August, the Undip Teaching Movement Volume X will continue until the end of the year for the implementation of the post-drop agenda. Of course, with the successful implementation of the Undip Teaching Movement Volume X in 2022, there is hope that the implementation of the Undip Teaching Movement will continue. The program will be carried out continuously with new innovations, new programs and new methods, in order to support the implementation of educational and teaching services to elementary school children so that the output obtained is maximized.
