FPP UNDIP Trained Breeders in the Meteseh Village, Semarang City

Semarang – Central Java (24/11). Breeders in Rejosari Sub-Village, Meteseh Village, Tembalang District, Semarang City have formed Livestock Farmers Groups so they can be more advanced in goat farming. Muhammad Machmudi, as Chairman of the Maju Karya Bersama Livestock Farmers Group, explained that by forming a group, handling livestock health and increasing the ability of members in livestock cultivation can be more easily implemented. “Our knowledge as breeders is limited, because we have been raising livestock for generations. So we need to receive training from experts,” said Machmudi. For this reason, the Maju Karya Bersama Livestock Farmers Group asked the team of Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Diponegoro University to be able to provide knowledge and technology transfer for all group members.

Fulfilling the community’s request, FPP Undip sent a service team to conduct training activities for goat breeders in the Meteseh Village. Ir. Sutrisno, M.P., as the team leader explained that the training on making feed was one of the efforts so that breeders could raise livestock economically but get optimal results. “If the goats get fat quickly, but the costs are cheap, the farmers will be more profitable,” said Sutrisno at a training event on Monday, November 21, 2022. Ir. Eko Pangestu, M.P., a member of the team, explained the techniques for preparing appropriate and economical feed accompanied by appropriate technology in preserving goat feed. “With quality and preserved feed, breeders will reduce their time looking for grass, so they can have more opportunities to gather with their families,” explained Eko, who was enthusiastically welcomed by the breeders.

The activities carried out by the FPP Undip Team in the Semarang city area were carried out in a series of accelerating the national Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is hoped that the increase in the income of goat breeders will serve as an example and increase the motivation to raise livestock for the people around Meteseh. Thus this activity is expected to end poverty that still exists in the community.
