Semarang, June 8, 2023 – Thursday, June 8, 2023, became an important momentum in the Rector of Diponegoro University (Undip) election for the 2024-2029 term. The four prospective rector candidates’ presentation of the work program plan has been successfully carried out in the Prof. Soedarto Building, Undip Tembalang Semarang Campus. The Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees (MWA), leaders of the Academic Senate, the Rector and Vice Rectors, heads of the Board of Professors, deans, heads of institutions and directors, other university leaders, lecturer representatives from all faculties, education staff, students, and a team from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology attended the event.
At 08:00 WIB, the event began with the opening, which was started by singing the Indonesia Raya Anthem and praying. Then, the Chairman of the Selection Committee, Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, gave a speech about this stage as a screening process for prospective rector candidates, in which four prospective candidates would be selected to become three candidates. The panelist Team gives each prospective candidate 20 minutes to present their work program plan and a 30-minute question and answer session. The panelist team consisted of nine people consisting of 5 MWA members, 2 members of the Academic Senate, 1 education staff, and 1 Head of the Undip Student Executive Board. Apart from that, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology team also gave the prospective candidates questions.
After the remarks, the event continued with each prospective rector candidate’s presentation and discussion of work program plans. Presentations are carried out sequentially according to the registration number of prospective candidates. The Leader of the Panelist Team led the event. During the event, each prospective candidate conveyed their ideas for advancing Undip and tried to answer questions from the Panelist Team. The presentation event took place lively, exciting, and smoothly. At 12:30 WIB, the presentation was closed by the Chairman of the Committee.
Furthermore, the Panelist Team held a closed meeting at the SA-MWA Building at 13:00 WIB to sum up the assessment scores and determine the rank of prospective rector candidates based on the highest to lowest scores. The meeting completed its duties at 14:30 WIB and resulted in a Proposed List of Assessment Results, which was submitted to the Selection Committee.
The Selection Committee then compiled the List of Evaluation Results in a closed meeting which began at 14:45 WIB and finished at 15:15 WIB in the SA-MWA Building. The Chair of the Committee then submitted the assessment results list to the Chair of the MWA.
The MWA meeting chaired directly by the Chair of the MWA began at 15:30 WIB to discuss the Assessment Results List from the Selection Committee. The meeting started with an explanation of the list of evaluation results from the Selection Committee by the Head of the MWA. After discussions and evaluations, the MWA meeting finally determined three candidates for Undip Rector for the 2024-2029 period. The three candidates are Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si.; Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D .; and Prof. dr. Muhamad Thohar Arifin, Ph.D., PA, Sp.BS (K). The determination of the sequence number is based on the number of scores obtained from the panelists. The results of this determination will be reported to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
The implementation of the screening stage in the selection of the Undip Rector for the 2024-2029 period has been successfully carried out. The next stage, namely the election stage, will be held tentatively on June 20, 2023. The next election process will also run successfully for the future progress of Diponegoro University.
