Prof. Dr. Ir. Ambariyanto, MSc., Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation at Diponegoro University, the UI GreenMetric National Coordinator for Indonesia, delivered an annual report at The 7th Steering Committee Meeting UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Network (UIGWURN) at the University of Minho Portugal on June 15, 2023. The representatives of National Coordinators from 19 Universities from various countries attended the event.
The meeting was opened and chaired by Prof. Rui Vieira de Castro, Rector of the University of Minho Portugal; Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, UI GreenMetric Chairperson; and Dr. Junaidi, Vice-Chair of Program, Communication, and Partnership, UI GreenMetric, Indonesia.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Ambariyanto, MSc., Undip Vice Rector IV as UI GreenMetric National Coordinator for Indonesia, delivered the 2023 Annual Report at the 7th Steering Committee Meeting UI GreenMetric WUR Network at the University of Minho Portugal, June 15, 2023.
In his report, Prof. Ambariyanto said that there would be ten workshops that will be held in 2023, with a theme according to indicators in the UI Greenmetric ranking, such as Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste Management, Water Conservation, Transportation, and Education for Sustainability. Prof. Ambar reported the formation of 6 teams from university members of the UIGM Network. They carry out joint programs and activities such as Courses on Sustainability, Eco Enzyme, Energy & Climate Change, Campus Waste, Infrastructure & Environment, and Community Services.
This meeting is the 7th meeting of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings Network, which was attended by the Secretariat of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings and National coordinators from various countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan. This meeting aims to discuss activities in each country and agree on 2023 activities and other matters related to the existing network.
Also attending the meeting of members of the Steering Committee at the University of Minho Portugal, the delegation from Undip, namely Prof. Denny Nugroho Sugianto and Dessy Ariyanti Ph.D., who are the Head and Deputy Head of the Undip Ranking Office. The participation of national coordinators from various countries would open up space to see the challenges that arise in efforts to increase the role of universities in global sustainability issues. In addition, it is hoped that national coordinators can encourage more universities in their countries to collaborate and learn from each other in dealing with sustainability issues and continue to strive to improve the quality of the environment around campuses as measured through UI GreenMetric ranking indicators.
Undip’s efforts to build an environmentally friendly green campus received appreciation from the 2022 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings as The 2022 2nd Most Sustainable University in Indonesia. Undip won and maintained the 2nd national ranking as the Best Sustainable Higher Education in Indonesia in 2020, 2021, and 2022. In addition, Undip managed to rank 4th at the Asian level and 29th at the World level in UI GreenMetric ranking 2022.
