UNDIP Establishes Cooperation with Korea-Indonesia MTCRC

Diponegoro University (Undip) cooperates with the Korea-Indonesia Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC). This collaboration includes cooperation in the academic and research fields.

The collaboration was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Undip, represented by Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., with the Korea-Indonesia MTCRC, represented by Dr. Hansan Park and Ivonne Milichristi Radjawane, Ph.D. MoU was signed on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 09.30 WIB at the Rector’s Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Widya Puraya Building, Undip Tembalang Campus.

The event was attended by the Undip Rector, Chair of the Academic Senate, Vice Rectors, Dean of Faculties/Schools, all levels of leaders within Undip, Director of Korea MTCRC, Director of Indonesia MTCRC, and Representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia.

In his remarks, Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., welcomed the cooperation established with the Korea-Indonesia MTCRC. Undip, one of Indonesia’s best universities, envisions becoming an excellent research university. “Undip pays great attention to increasing the number of scientific research in certain fields to achieve the goal of becoming a World Class Leading Research University,” said Prof. Yos.

Establishing cooperation with Korea-Indonesia MTCRC will encourage more international collaboration and align with the University’s vision. This cooperation includes educational and research cooperation. “The cooperation covers the exchange of lecturers and staff to advance scientific research, carry out joint research, seminars, conferences, scholarship and training programs, and contribute to the development of the two institutions,” explained Prof. Yos.

“Many activities resulted from this collaboration, especially with the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. However, we still need to expand the field of cooperation with other faculties to strengthen our cooperation,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Korean Director from Korea-Indonesia MTCRC, Dr. Hansan Park, looked enthusiastic and expressed gratitude for his collaboration with Undip.

Dr. Hansan Park revealed that the collaboration between Undip and the Korea-Indonesia MTCRC will advance the Indonesian marine sector through scientific and academic development. This collaboration will cover several fields, including Marine Science and Fisheries, Oceanography, Earth Sciences, Marine and Coastal Hazards, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Information, Marine and Coastal Environment Issues, and Smart Aquaculture.

Undip, located in the middle of the island of Java, makes it a strategic university, especially in developing maritime potential. In addition, Undip is also active in carrying out activities in coastal areas such as in Jepara and Karimunjawa islands. In addition, Undip is known for having a solid academic reputation and has a track record of producing quality graduates who have made significant contributions in various fields.

“MTCRC currently has 25 staff, 5 of whom are Undip alumni or 20% of MTCRC staff are from Undip. MTCRC also has an Advisory Board; we have 5 Advisory Board members, one of whom is also an Undip alumnus, Prof. Widodo Setiyo Pranowo from the National Research & Innovation Agency (BRIN). This important representation from Undip further strengthens our belief that working with the University will greatly advance the Indonesian Maritime sector,” explained Dr. Hansan Park.

On the same occasion, the Indonesian Director of the Korea-Indonesia MTCRC, Ivonne Milichristi Radjawane, Ph.D., hopes that the cooperation that has been established can have a positive impact, especially in the maritime area. “This MoU symbolizes our shared commitment to building a prosperous future in the maritime area, and I’m sure our joint efforts will produce good results,” he concluded.
