In the context of Planning and Development for 2024, Diponegoro University (Undip) held an Annual Work Meeting through the Planning and Development Forum (Forenbang) on Monday, July 31, 2023, starting at 09.00 WIB at the Aruss Hotel Semarang.
This event was attended by the Rector, Vice Rectors, Dean of the Faculties/Schools, and all Undip leaders. The committee also invited the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, and the Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D.
The 2024 Undip Planning and Development Forum has the theme “Improving Education Services Towards Golden Indonesia in 2045”. The theme aligns with the achievement of Undip’s 2020-2024 targets set out in the Strategic Plan (Renstra) document, namely to strengthen Undip as a PTNBH, Undip as a Research University, and Undip towards the world-class top 500. Undip must be adaptive, survive, and be able to move quickly to seize opportunities to deal with various changes that occur very dynamically.
Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum officially opened the event. In his remarks, Prof. Yos revealed that management governance in Higher Education is essential because it will later affect the ranking of Higher Education. “One of the considerations and attractions of prospective students choosing a university is the university’s ranking. So it needs to be strengthened in it,” said Prof. Yos.
“We must be brave to take risks and take strategic actions regarding efficiency and strengthening. We have to do those two things firmly and with a clear roadmap,” Undip Rector stated.
Prof. Yos invited all leaders and employees within Undip to continue improving student services and realize that a big name for Undip needs to be maintained. “That awareness will motivate us always to do the best,” conveyed Prof. Yos.
Head of Planning and Development Agency (BPP) Undip, Prof. Dr. Ir. Purwanto, DEA. in his report, explained that in the development master plan, Undip is currently in phase V (fifth), namely Strengthening as a Research University (2020-2024) and in the following year it will become Undip’s foundation as a World Class University (WCU), starting from WCU Maturation (2025-2029), WCU Actualization (2030-2034), and WCU Reference (2035-2039).
“In various rankings, Undip is always in the top 10. One example is in the latest Webometrics ranking, Undip is back in the top 10, ranked 8th in Indonesia. In the 2024 QS World University Ranking, Undip is ranked 791-800, so if it follows the Strategic Plan heading to the top 500, Undip is already on the right track,” explained Prof. Purwanto.
“Furthermore, the innovations and strategies of each sector in the Planning and Development Forum materials will be the focus for planning and budgeting in 2024,” he said.
Representing the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Head of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy HR Development Center Faisal, A.Md.Par., S.ST.Par., M.M.Par., delivered material on Higher Education supported by business.
“We want to encourage how the outputs and outcomes of tertiary institutions, both academic and vocational, are truly in line with our enthusiasm to be able to produce superior, quality and competitive workforce which will certainly support the productivity of the business world, industrial world and the world of work,” said Faisal.
Meanwhile, representing the Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Director of the Institutional Directorate General of Higher Education Ministry of Education and Culture, Dr. Lukman, S.T., M.Hum., delivered material on the challenges and policy directions of the Ministry of Education and Culture towards Golden Indonesia in 2045.
Dr. Lukman revealed that the education system in Indonesia is undergoing a significant transformation. “This is driven by 4 (four) things: economic shifts, socio-cultural and demographic changes, changes in the labor market landscape, and Indonesia’s vision towards Indonesia Gold in 2045. We have to improve and change,” said Lukman.
Changes in the world of education need to be made amid changing times and globalization’s impact. Study programs in each tertiary institution are required to improve quality and adapt to changing times. “We encourage study programs to get international accreditation. We also encourage other State Universities to become Legal Entity State Universities (PTNBH) so that they have freedom in academic and non-academic matters,” said Lukman.
Furthermore, Lukman expressed his appreciation to Undip for having succeeded in becoming one of the leading tertiary institutions. “We appreciate the performance of the Rector and all of his staff, Undip has excelled in Indonesia, but there is still something to be pursued, namely to become a world-class university. We from the Ministry of Education and Culture will facilitate the acceleration of Undip to become a world-class university,” he concluded.
