The International Labor Organization (ILO) signed an MoU on Cooperation Commitment with Diponegoro University (Undip) on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the Rector’s Meeting Room. From Diponegoro University, represented by the Rector of Diponegoro University, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., while from the ILO was represented by Michiko Miyamoto, Director of the ILO Office for Indonesia and Timor Leste.
Collaboration between Undip and the ILO will open up opportunities in the fields of education, policy orientation, and employment practice experience related to the problems faced by the workforce, such as underage workers, forced labor, discrimination, lack of worker representation, and a fair recruitment process.
Before this signing, the ILO held a kick-off event for the Decent Work Promotion Campaign Program in the Fisheries sector in March 2023 at the Faculty of Economics and Business Undip. In this event, Undip was appointed by the ILO as a leading university in Indonesia in the context of Promoting Decent Work in the Fisheries Sector.
At this signing event, Michiko Miyamoto said that the ILO had prepared several trainings to support this cooperation. “We have prepared several trainings both for students and also for universities. “Also for anyone interested in taking part in training,” she said.
The Rector of Diponegoro University added that this cooperation needs to be improved to become stronger. “Many activities have resulted from this collaboration, especially with the Faculty of Economics and Business. “Even so, we still have to expand the areas of cooperation with other faculties to strengthen cooperation between Undip and the ILO,” said Prof. Yos.
