Undip student who are members of the Indonesian Students Association (PPI) in Canterbury, New Zealand, together with the University of Canterbury (UC), participated in traditional gamelan music performances at the Selwyn Culture Fest on Sunday (10/9/2023).
Selwyn Culture Fest is an annual cultural festival that takes place in the Selwyn District, New Zealand. This year’s Selwyn Culture Fest lasted one day, featuring incredible performances by more than 20 acts from a variety of New Zealand’s ethnic groups. One of them is the performance of gamelan music and pendet dance originating from Indonesia.
As representatives of Indonesia, Undip student who are members of the Indonesian Students Association (PPI) also participated in performances of gamelan music and pendet dance. Ocktadian, one of the Undip students who took part in the performance, expressed his pride in being able to perform. Ocktadian plays the role of a jegogan gamelan player, or more precisely, gamelan, which is a typical culture of Bali Province.
He admitted that he was very proud and grateful to be able to participate in a cultural event of this international scale, which could introduce Indonesian culture to foreign countries by getting a very positive response from the audience. “We as the young generation of the Indonesian nation must continue to be proud and enthusiastic in preserving our culture, both at home and abroad,” said Ocktadian.
Meanwhile, Nida Nafila Attamimi, as the Coordinator of the PPI Canterbury Presidium Council, expressed her appreciation to all Indonesian students at Canterbury, who together presented one of Indonesia’s artistic treasures to the international community. (Titis/Warnoto – Public Relations)
