A multi-disciplinary program that focuses on making compost from organic waste is the main initiative of the Diponegoro University Organic KKN-T Team. This program aims to increase the efficiency of organic waste management in the Diponegoro University Tembalang area.
The implementation of this program response to complaints from UPT K3L Undip, Bina Kurniawan, S.KM., M.Kes., who revealed that the composting process, which took 30 days, was considered too slow, especially considering that Diponegoro University is one of the Green Campuses that produces abundant leaf waste every day. Responding to these complaints, the Undip Organic KKN-T Team created a new method and mixture with the aim of speeding up the composting process.
The Organic KKN-T Team consists of 24 members from the Faculty of Public Health, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and the Faculty of Engineering. This program was implemented on Thursday, November 30, 2023, starting at 08:00 WIB, and is scheduled to last for 14 days according to the time needed to compost leaf waste. Once completed, the compost will be tested for levels at the Undip Environmental Engineering laboratory.
In an interview with the Head of the Undip Organic KKN-T Team, Fernando Onggowarsito stated, “We will harvest the compost after 2 weeks. During this period, we will take turns checking the composting conditions, starting from temperature, smell, leaf size, to humidity.”
The implementation of this program continues to be supervised and guided by the UPT K3L Undip to ensure activities run safely without work accidents. The KKN-T Team Leader hopes that the innovation they are planning will be successful and can be utilized by UPT K3L Undip to shorten composting time. “I hope that the composting we are doing is successful, then we can handle the buildup of leaf waste experienced by UPT K3L Undip,” said the Head of the Undip Organic KKN-T Team.
