Arif Hidayat, a MIKOM UNDIP Student, Won Grand Champion at Eiger Innoventure

Students from the Postgraduate Communication Science Program (MIKOM) at Diponegoro University (Undip), represented by Arif Hidayat and his colleague Satria Dwi Laksana from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta (ISI), succeeded in winning the leading champion in the competition organized by Eiger, namely Innoventure. Arif Hidayat is a student from Bengkulu who is currently studying for a master’s degree at the Undip Postgraduate Program (MIKOM). Arif said that his initial participation in the Eiger Innoventure event started with his election as a postgraduate representative at Diponegoro University (Undip) in the Wirausaha Merdeka (WMK) activity at Padjadjaran University (Unpad) Bandung. Wirausaha Merdeka (WMK) is part of the Independent Campus program of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), which provides opportunities for students to learn and develop themselves into potential entrepreneurs through activities outside of lecture classes. The Wirausaha Merdeka activity itself lasts for 1 semester to learn entrepreneurship at the target university.

Arif added that Eiger Innoventure was attended by 2,095 registrants, consisting of 116 Outdoor Apparel and Equipment ideas, 69 Digital Product ideas, and 46 Marketing Strategy ideas. Then, they were screened again to qualify as finalists, namely 15 teams with 5 teams each in each category. The innovative idea offered by Arif and his colleagues is “Eiger Aadvent (Abaya Adventure) 3in1”. This innovation started from a problem felt by Muslim women climbers, namely the lack of outdoor clothing aimed at Muslim women. From this, the Eiger Aadvent innovation emerged as an outdoor clothing solution that can help Muslim women in climbing.

Stories about adventures exploring tropical nature in Indonesia will never end. When inspiration is found in nature, it demands us to continue to grow and adapt so that we can take further steps to discover innovations. The discovery is what Eiger Adventure (EIGER) continues to do as a brand providing outdoor equipment from Indonesia. EIGER Marketing General Manager Jason Wuysang said the future of the world of outdoor adventure requires innovation and daily lessons from nature. EIGER believes that Indonesia will always have great innovators. “EIGER must continue to move, grow and adapt to create innovations in the world of outdoor adventure. In 2023, EIGER invites the best innovators from the country’s children to join the INNOVENTURE 2023 challenge. It’s time to change the way we interpret, enjoy and explore adventures in the wild,” said Jason.

Since June, EIGER INNOVENTURE 2023 has been open. This competition was created to find the best innovations in the world of adventure. During the registration period until the initial assessment determined the finalists, approximately 3,095 applicants with various innovative ideas were collected. Program Head Innoventure and CX Manager EIGER Imam Ibrahim said all the innovation ideas that come in have the same goal: revolutionizing our experience of outdoor activities, as well as challenging changes in this industry. Imam added that when registration closed, 116 Outdoor Apparel and Equipment ideas, 69 Digital Product ideas, and 46 Marketing Strategy ideas were collected. Then, they entered the finalist selection stage, and each gathered five of the best ideas in each category. “All finalists from various regions were brought to Bandung to join the Residency Mentorship Program. Mentoring program for finalists with assistance from experts from various industries to sharpen the innovation ideas registered,” explained Imam.

Friday (22/9/2023), the final round of the entire EIGER INNOVENTURE 2023 series was held. Located in Dusun Bambu, West Bandung Regency, a total of 15 finalist teams consisting of 38 people have presented their innovation ideas and produced a number of product prototypes. The jury panel involved was EIGER management and experts from various industries. The presentations were assessed by four judges, namely Christian Sarsono as CEO of Eigerindo MPI, Indrawan Nugroho as CEO of Corporate Innovation Asia, Adisti Latief as Marketing Science & Strategic Practitioner, and Jayson E. Wuysang as GM Marketing Eigerindo MPI.

“Finalists are challenged to prove solutions to problems that occur in the world of outdoor adventure, build solutions, and prove that the innovations and solutions they design can have a positive impact on industry and society,” said Imam. The series closed with the announcement of the winners as well as a gala dinner, which brought together all the finalists and the best mentors from various industries. “The total prize has been prepared at IDR 300 million. Winners are determined based on the customer experience award, social impact award and people’s choice award categories. We hope that EIGER INNOVENTURE 2023 will be the source of various innovative ideas that can be realized, patented, and have a real impact on the problems around us,” concluded Imam.

Diponegoro University (Undip) representatives, represented by Arif Hidayat from the Undip Postgraduate Program (MIKOM), on the award night, succeeded in winning the leading champion by winning 6 awards in the competition, namely: Social Impact Award, User-Centric Design Award, Innovation in Design Award, Sustainability Award, and Best of Outdoor Product with a total prize of 175 million. The hope is that the Eiger Innoventure program can generate innovation from young Indonesians so they can create work that has an impact on society. “Indonesian children are assets and successors to the progress of civilization in advancing the nation’s name in the future,” added Arif.
