Diponegoro University (UNDIP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI) on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. The signing coincided with a Guest Lecture event organized by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) and held in the Auditorium Room of Building A, FISIP UNDIP Tembalang.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., and the Chairman of KPU RI, Hasyim Asy’ari, S.H., M.Si., Ph.D. UNDIP and KPU RI agreed to enhance cooperation in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the fields of Elections and Democracy Education.
The scope of this cooperation includes education, research, teaching, and community service in the areas of democracy and elections. Additionally, there is an agreement to conduct collaborative research and improve the quality of human resources in the fields of elections and democracy.
KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari, S.H., M.Si., Ph.D., urged UNDIP students to continue absorbing knowledge, not only cognitively but also affectively and psychometrically. Furthermore, the ability to think logically and creatively must constantly be honed.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si. welcomed the cooperation between UNDIP and KPU RI. According to him, this is the right time for UNDIP to appear in the public sphere and take part in addressing the nation’s problems from an academic perspective.
“The campus is the ideal place to generate enlightened thinking to represent the people. So, if the people feel wronged, there is someone to speak on their behalf. Hopefully, we can be part of a campus that helps safeguard this nation,” said the UNDIP Rector. (Hng-Public Relations)
