In support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), strengthening cooperation, and enhancing internationalization achievements and networks, the Faculty of Public Health at Diponegoro University (FKM UNDIP) is holding The 6th Summer Course Program 2024 from June 27 to July 6, 2024, online via Zoom Meeting and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
This 6th Summer Course is themed “Community Participation in Public Health: Public Health Coping and Adaptation Response to Climate Change in Tropical and Coastal Living Environment.” This theme aligns with current global concerns related to climate change and the shifting dynamics of diseases.
The Dean of the Faculty of Public Health UNDIP, Dr. Budiyono, S.KM., M.Kes., officially opened The 6th Summer Course Program 2024 and warmly welcomed the Summer Course participants. “Over the next 10 days, this program will be a transformative journey. Together, we will explore the dynamics related to climate change, its impact on public health, and other issues related to public health mitigation and adaptation efforts, particularly in tropical and coastal areas,” he said.
Dr. Budiyono encouraged the Summer Course participants to think critically and creatively, fostering a high level of curiosity and willingness to learn. The summer course activities ensured active engagement and positive changes in each participant through the Summer Course activities.
“Additionally, this activity aims to enhance students’ experience in efforts to maintain public health, as well as to address and adapt to climate change, especially in Coastal Areas, and to learn about Indonesian culture and multiculturalism,” he added.
The Summer Course Program is designed to integrate lectures and field practice, allowing participants to gain scientific insights into health and various best practices and cultures through this activity.
“We have invited various experts to present several interesting topics. Besides lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health at Diponegoro University, we have also invited experts from the University of Indonesia, Raja Mangala University of Technology Thannyaburi, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, and many more,” explained Dr. Budiyono.
Fifty participants from 17 countries attended the 6th Summer Course, including Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Cambodia, Uganda, Rwanda, India, Timor Leste, Fiji, Thailand, Taiwan, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Myanmar, and Afghanistan.
In organizing this summer course, Dr. Budiyono hopes to make a significant contribution to achieving the primary goal of SDG 3, which is ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all, as well as other goals related to public health.
Meanwhile, the Head of the International Office UNDIP, Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, S.H., M.H., L.L.M., also supports this 6th Summer Course. “We appreciate the initiative of FKM UNDIP to share experiences and knowledge from a scientific perspective on the impacts of climate change on public health. Climate change has a significant impact on all elements of society. We hope that participants can have new experiences, gain knowledge, and enjoy this summer course,” he said.
The Summer Course Program, which the Faculty of Public Health UNDIP held, has been running since 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been conducted online since 2020. This cooperation program is expected to open up collaboration opportunities for the Faculty of Public Health UNDIP with universities abroad in terms of academics, student affairs, and research.
