UNDIP Rector Held an Interactive Discussion with Students

The Rector of Diponegoro University, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., is making efforts to foster communication with students by being open to meeting and discussing all campus-related matters directly with them. The communication was done in the “Sitting with the Rector: Gathering Student Aspirations” forum held in the hall of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at UNDIP, Tembalang, on Wednesday (15/5).

Through this forum, UNDIP Rector Prof. Suharnomo wants the campus to belong to everyone. For him, the responsibility to boost achievements and maintain UNDIP’s good name does not lie solely with the Rector and lecturers. Students and other campus stakeholders share the same obligation.

“UNDIP belongs to all of us. If there is a bottleneck of communication, then convey it directly so that it doesn’t just look good at the top but has many problems below. I am open, very open to discussions,” said Prof. Suharnomo when opening the “Sitting with the Rector: Gathering Student Aspirations” event in the hall of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at UNDIP.

Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., as the Rector of UNDIP, welcomed the students who attended. “Students are our children, and this dialogue has good intentions. Please convey your thoughts in your respective capacities, and we will try to execute the input from all of you,” said the Rector of UNDIP.

“Don’t be a Rector that is difficult to meet. UNDIP is open to anyone who wants to discuss,” he added, greeted by the enthusiastic pride of the students.

Prof. Suharnomo’s open attitude created a friendly atmosphere and discussion flow. There were no barriers between the Rector, lecturers, and the hundreds of students present. Everyone sat together casually and discussed various complaints and ways to make the campus more advanced.

The Chairman of the UNDIP Student Executive Board (BEM), Farid Darmawan, led the discussion and began by conveying the aspirations and opinions of students that BEM UNDIP had collected. He emphasized that this was the right moment to voice students’ rights.

Regarding facilities and infrastructure, UNDIP, through the Planning and Development Agency (BPP), has a master plan for constructing twin towers, each with 13 floors. These buildings will be built on the Pleburan campus and used as lecture buildings. Meanwhile, the facilities at the PSDKU campus will continue to be tested and improved in quality. Campus facilities and infrastructure development are regulated in the RKAT and planned for optimization.

Concerning the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) system, the UNDIP Rector responded that it will continue to be reviewed and that the most relevant learning methods will be considered.

Several Deans of Faculty and Schools also responded to the students’ questions and suggestions in this discussion. UNDIP will share its development plans’ latest roadmap in the future.

At the end of the event, the UNDIP Rector expressed his appreciation for the students’ enthusiastic and courageous participation in voicing their aspirations. The Rector, Vice Rectors, Deans of Faculty/School, Heads of Department, Heads of Study Programs, and all involved parties consider the students’ ideas and input in policy-making.

The hope is that events like this can be held regularly so that student aspirations can be conveyed properly and correctly to the university leadership and discussed together for a better UNDIP. (Ut & Titis-Public Relations)
