UNDIP Rector Welcomes 14,640 New Students

UNDIP, Semarang (August 7) – “Welcome, young Diponegoro, welcome to the journey of self-improvement. Become dignified and useful human beings,” greeted the Rector of Diponegoro University, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., at the New Student Admission Ceremony for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The event was held at the Muladi Dome, UNDIP Multi-Purpose Building (GSG), Tembalang Campus, for three days from August 7 to August 9, 2024.

Prof. Suharnomo mentioned that UNDIP ranked second nationally for SNBP applicants and first for SNBT applicants in Indonesia. He also highlighted the overwhelming number of applicants for the Independent Exam. “Many people choose UNDIP due to its recognition, reputation, and the fact that Semarang is a very comfortable place to study. Be proud and grateful,” he explained.

“College life is a bridge to adulthood. At UNDIP, there will be many activities beyond lectures, including organizational activities that you should join to hone your organizational skills. Don’t just be a student who only attends lectures and goes home,” said Prof. Suharnomo.

The UNDIP Rector expressed hope that students would be prepared to become future leaders with a good education. “Not undergoing hazing doesn’t mean you’ll become weak. Instead, you’ll develop into strong, resilient individuals who aren’t easily discouraged or overly sensitive. Don’t be lazy; stay active; don’t be easily upset; and maintain a positive attitude,” he advised.

Meanwhile, in his introductory remarks, the Chair of the Academic Senate, Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, explained that UNDIP has ranked first in Indonesia for three consecutive years (2021-2023) for graduates who quickly secure employment. “Be grateful and proud to have the opportunity to gain knowledge and develop skills at Diponegoro University,” he said.

Prof.rer.nat Heru Susanto, S.T., M.T., Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs at UNDIP, reported that the total number of new students in 2024 is 14,640, including 281 Doctoral students, 904 Master’s students, 149 Specialist students, 221 Professional program students, 11,196 Undergraduate students, and 1,829 Applied/Vocational School students.

“You are now officially a student at UNDIP, bearing the great name Prince Diponegoro and attending one of the best and most prominent universities in Indonesia. You are now part of the large UNDIP family, which has a total of 67,134 students,” explained Prof. Heru.

In 2024, all new students are required to attend all events within their respective Faculties and Vocational Schools at Diponegoro University according to the predetermined schedule. “Let’s introduce UNDIP campus life with love. Violence and hazing are things of the past.”

He hoped that new students would follow the orientation period well. “Use this orientation period to understand the learning process, organizational activities, and the facilities that support learning. Don’t just attend classes; also join student organizations,” he advised.

“Dream! Pursue knowledge with all the strength you have. It’s not the knowledge that should come to you, but you who must seek knowledge,” said Prof. Heru, quoting Imam Malik.

The series of New Student Admission (PMB) activities include Campus Life Introduction for New Students (PKKMB) and Study Plan Filling (IRS) on August 12-13, 2024. Character Education (PENDIKAR) will be held from August 14-16, 2024, and the Young Diponegoro Orientation (Orientasi Diponegoro Muda / ODM) will take place on August 18, 2024, in person.
