UNDIP Successfully Holds Workshop on Internationalization of Study Programs and International Community Service

The Department of Management at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Diponegoro University, in collaboration with the Alliance of Indonesian Management and Business Study Programs (APSMBI) and the Indonesian Management Forum (FMI), successfully organized a Workshop on the Internationalization of Study Programs and International Community Service with the theme “Cultural Synergy Empowering Global Students Through Multicultural Leadership.” The event, held on July 31 and August 1, 2024, in the Main Conference Room of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Diponegoro University, Semarang, featured several prominent and engaging speakers from various fields.

The workshop was designed to broaden the perspectives of lecturers, researchers, and other stakeholders in adapting and implementing global perspectives into their academic programs and operational practices. The event emphasized the importance of internationalization in enhancing the quality and relevance of higher education in the global era.

The workshop opened with a welcoming speech from the Chairman of the Committee, Bimo Suryo Wicaksono, S.E., M.M., who is also the Chairman of APSMBI for the Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara regions. The keynote speaker for the event was the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Diponegoro University, Prof. Faisal S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., who delivered a presentation on the regulations, strategies, and implementation of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP). The event was moderated by Prof. Dr. Harjum Muharam, SE, ME, who serves as the Head of the Management Department at FEB Undip.

The next session featured Prof. Firmansyah S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., who discussed “Strategies and Implementation of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP).” The session was followed by Afina Hasya, S.T., M.M., who shared “Best Practices in Managing the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) at Diponegoro University” with Dr. Ismi Darmastuti, S.E., M.Si. as the moderator.

The session continued with presentations from alumni and students of the international program. Christian Krisna Pideksa from Curtin University shared his experiences as an alumnus of the Double Degree Program. At the same time, Ghassani Nur Amalina from York University explained the benefits of participating in the Credit Transfer System (CTS) Program. The session also featured Dr. Thorr Kerr from Curtin University as an IUP partner abroad, with Afina Hasya, S.T., M.M. as the moderator. The workshop on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, was attended by 68 participants, who were delegates from 31 universities/colleges, with 11 universities serving as co-hosts, including Trunojoyo Madura University, Ciputra University Surabaya, the Islamic University of Indonesia, STIE Madani Balikpapan, Mahasaraswati University Denpasar, Kuningan University, Jember University, Nahdatul Ulama University Jepara, Muria Kudus University, Jenderal Soedirman University, and Syarif Hidayatullah University Jakarta.

The second day of the workshop focused on international community service involving international students. This activity included interactive discussions, cultural introductions, and city tours that provided participants with in-depth experiences and enriched their knowledge of cultural diversity. As part of the activities on the second day (Thursday, August 1, 2024), the International Community Service event was attended by international students at UNDIP, with 55 participants who were delegates from 26 universities/colleges from various regions in Indonesia.

As part of the second day’s activities, workshop participants also took part in a campus tour specifically designed to introduce the facilities and programs of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) at the Faculty of Economics and Business at Diponegoro University. This campus tour provided participants with the opportunity to see firsthand the supportive learning environment, modern facilities, and various services available to international students. Participants also had the chance to discuss with IUP students and faculty members, enriching their understanding of the learning experience at Diponegoro University.

The workshop successfully created an interactive forum for academics and industry practitioners to exchange ideas and strategies for addressing the dynamics of global education. The active participation of various higher education institutions demonstrated a shared commitment to improving the quality of teaching and fostering sustainable international collaboration. (idr)
