BNPT RI Provides Education to New UNDIP Law Students to Prevent Terrorism and Radicalism

The Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University invited a speaker from the Deputy for Prevention, Protection, and Deradicalization at the National Counterterrorism Agency (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Terorisme / BNPT) of Indonesia to deliver a session during the Campus Life Introduction for New Students and Character Education Program (PKKMB and PENDIKAR). The event was held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, in the courtyard of the Prof. Dr. Satjipto Rahardjo, S.H. Building.

Major General Roedy Widodo, in his capacity as Deputy for Prevention, Protection, and Deradicalization at BNPT RI, emphasized that this briefing is crucial for raising students’ awareness by building individual, community, and societal resilience, ultimately leading to national resilience against terrorism and radicalism. “With knowledge on the prevention of terrorism and radicalism, if any signs of threats that do not align with the nation’s way of life emerge, they can be addressed at an early stage,” he said.

According to him, understanding the concept of counterterrorism is essential for all levels of society to create dynamic national resilience. The national counterterrorism strategy involves the 5P strategy (Prevention, Preparedness, Protection, Pursue and Eradicate, and Partnership). Strengthening this strategy consists of building public resilience through public awareness, public engagement, multistakeholder collaboration, and firm and proactive law enforcement.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Retno Saraswati, S.H., M.Hum., expressed her hope that the new students would understand the dangers of terrorism and radicalism. She hopes that after hearing the material from Major General Roedy Widodo, Faculty of Law UNDIP students will be able to avoid anything that could lead them to terrorism and radicalism on campus and in their surroundings. “We hope our students have a strong sense of nationalism and can avoid the influence of radicalism and terrorism,” she concluded.
