Sukorejo Village, located in Sambirejo Subdistrict, Sragen Regency, is one of the villages committed to improving the welfare of its community. Sukrisno, S.Pd. S.D., S.H., as the Village Head, stated that the local economy can be enhanced through the synergy of activities between the village government, relevant agencies, and universities as providers of appropriate technology. Therefore, the cooperation between Sukorejo Village and Diponegoro University is being strengthened through agreements to implement community service activities that directly impact the residents.
On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the Head of the Master of Animal Science Program at the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, UNDIP, along with the Animal Science Master students, visited Sukorejo Village. From discussions with the village officials, especially the Village Head, several agricultural and livestock activities were agreed upon, which will help increase the income of local farmers and livestock breeders.
Dr. Ir. Cahya Setya Utama, M.Si., IPM, Head of the Master of Animal Science Program, explained that the program aims to produce graduates who are concerned about and actively involved in the development, making the campus role more tangible for the community in line with UNDIP’s slogans of dignity and benefit.
Community service activities are scheduled for October 2024, with a focus on training underprivileged families to raise household-scale egg-laying chickens as part of UNDIP’s Science and Technology for Assisted Villages Program (Ipteks bagi Desa Binaan UNDIP / IDBU). Additionally, since many Sukorejo residents raise catfish, improving catfish farming productivity, especially regarding feed supply, will be a priority.
This program from the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences UNDIP aligns with the initiatives planned by the Sukorejo Village Government. During the Stunting Forum, held at the Sukorejo Village Hall, an agreement was also reached to implement a Supplementary Feeding Program (Pemberian Makanan Tambahan / PMT). The PMT program will involve providing locally sourced animal protein, such as catfish. Training in processing catfish meat is expected to reduce stunting cases and foster new entrepreneurs in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through various catfish-based culinary products.
The Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences will collaborate with other faculties, such as the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, the Faculty of Public Health, the Faculty of Engineering, and others, to address issues in Sukorejo Village through the Thematic Community Service Program (KKN Tematik).
“This integrated program is expected to improve the residents’ economy while also reducing stunting cases,” said Sukrisno.
The emergence of new SMEs is also hoped to inspire underprivileged families to engage in agricultural, livestock, and fisheries businesses, helping them move towards becoming prosperous families.
