Semarang, September 13, 2024 – The Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences (Fakultas Peternakan dan Pertanian/ FPP) UNDIP celebrated its 60th anniversary on September 1, 2024. To commemorate its 60th year, FPP UNDIP held a series of events to contribute to the community, both academically and non-academically. One of the main highlights of this anniversary celebration was the event on September 13, 2024, when the President Director of PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia (CPI), Dr. (HC) Tjiu Thomas Effendy, S.E., M.B.A., visited FPP UNDIP to meet with the recipients of the Charoen Pokphand Foundation Indonesia scholarship and deliver a scientific oration to the entire academic community of FPP UNDIP.
In the morning, from 09:00 to 11:30 WIB, at the Hall of Building F, FPP UNDIP, Dr. (HC) Tjiu Thomas Effendy, S.E., M.B.A., met with 50 CPI scholarship recipients. These 50 students come from the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Psychology, and PSDKU Batang Campus. The event was also attended by alumni scholarship recipients who shared testimonies about the benefits they received as CPI scholarship awardees. During the event, the students provided feedback and suggestions related to the development of the CPI scholarship directly to the CPI management. Suggestions such as forming a community for scholarship recipients, creating a particular track for recruitment at CPI, and developing soft skills were put forward. Dr. (HC) Tjiu Thomas Effendy, S.E., M.B.A., warmly received these inputs and promised to provide the best support for UNDIP students, especially since UNDIP has the highest number of scholarship quotas from CPI in Indonesia.
On this occasion, the UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his gratitude to CPI for its commitment and cooperation in developing the academic atmosphere at UNDIP. “CPI has contributed to building the academic ecosystem by providing students with practical experience. The construction of closed houses, Prima Freshmart, MBKM programs, and direct recruitment at UNDIP are tangible contributions from Mr. Thomas and his team,” he said.
The morning session did not mark the end of the event. In the afternoon, from 13:30 to 16:00 WIB, Dr. (HC) Tjiu Thomas Effendy, S.E., M.B.A., again addressed thousands of students who packed the Prof. Soedarto Building.
During this scientific oration, the Dean of the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences UNDIP, Prof. Sugiharto, S.Pt., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his commitment to producing sustainable innovations. In his remarks, the Dean emphasized his determination to make FPP a reference for tropical livestock and agriculture in Indonesia and to continue improving its international ranking.
This scientific oration was remarkable, as it had been five years since Dr. (HC) Tjiu Thomas Effendy, S.E., M.B.A., last agreed to deliver a seminar. However, on the occasion of FPP UNDIP’s 60th anniversary, he made a special appearance to share his insights and thoughts. In his speech, he delivered a presentation on the theme “Strategic Initiatives to Achieve a Corn Partnership Towards Corn Self-Sufficiency for Animal Feed.” He elaborated on the importance of using technology and how to run a business from upstream to downstream.
“Many young people are no longer interested in the livestock and agricultural sectors because they are considered dirty. Now, it’s time to use technology such as drones to work more efficiently. For example, at CPI, we establish partnerships with corn farmers, process the yields into quality feed for chickens, and then process the chickens hygienically so that the final products can be enjoyed on the table. We do everything with technology. It’s time for all of us to synergize—farmers, livestock breeders, CPI, and universities. Let’s join hands to make Indonesia’s livestock and agriculture sectors even better in the future,” he concluded.
