The Excitement of Band Competition at UNDIP’s 67th Anniversary Develops Academic Talents

Semarang – The series of events for Universitas Diponegoro’s 67th Anniversary is enlivened by the performances from the Universitas Diponegoro academic community in a “Band Competition,” which shows creative talent in musical arts. The event, held at the Prof. Sudarto, S.H. building on UNDIP’s Tembalang Campus on Thursday (17/10), featured 14 participants from faculty and staff categories and 7 participants from the student category, each performing their chosen songs with a theme of “Poverty Alleviation and Food Security.”

The Band Competition, part of the Universitas Diponegoro’s 67th Anniversary, celebrated talent and creativity in musical arts. Participants incorporated recycled materials into their performances, adding unique value to the event.

The Rector of Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed great appreciation for the Band Competition, the first of its kind organized by UNDIP to celebrate its 67th Anniversary. Prof. Suharnomo, along with the Central Office Band consisting of Wahyu Septya Permataloka (BP UBIKAR), Ari Kristianto – BUK (Personnel Unit), Rahel Suminar Nandita Sianipar (BPSDM), Dono Pranoto (Muladi Dome), Eka Kusuma Wadhana (Muladi Dome), Sunu Tri Okta – BIKS (Cooperation Unit), and A. Budi Santosa, S.E., M.M. (Manager of Muladi Dome & Dipohub), opened the event with two songs, adding to the excitement.

“Alhamdulillah, the UNDIP talent is incredible. To quote Buya Hamka, with faith, life gains direction; with knowledge, life becomes easier; and with art, life becomes beautiful. As Prof. Rhenald Kasali mentioned in the scientific oration for UNDIP’s 67th Anniversary, ‘In today’s world, people must balance work and life by working diligently with ambitious targets yet also creating spaces for happiness,'” stated Prof. Suharnomo.

He added, “For a happy and successful career, one should adopt a Type B personality, which is easygoing and self-enjoying. So, as artists, just enjoy yourselves and deliver your best performance. Hopefully, these talents will capture the attention of the judges.”

“May this first band competition be an excellent showcase, and hopefully, next year, it can be held on a larger scale. Keep working hard and playing hard, maintaining that work-life balance,” the UNDIP Rector said as he symbolically opened the band competition by striking a drum.

In his speech, Dr. Purnawan Adi Wicaksono, S.T., M.T., Vice Dean for Resources at the Faculty of Engineering UNDIP, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in supporting and organizing the Band Competition in celebration of UNDIP’s 67th Anniversary amidst their busy schedules.

“We hope this band competition will reveal talents from UNDIP that can reach greater pinnacles,” Purnawan stated.

The Band Competition winners in the faculty and staff category were: first place – Plonk Band from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM); second place – Anak Hukum Band from the Faculty of Law (FH); and third place – Karepe Dewe Band (BKD) from the Faculty of Psychology.

In the student category, Sakutala Band from FISIP won first place; Blue Surgeon from the Faculty of Medicine (FK) took second; and Studio 8 Band from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) secured third place.

After the event, Dr. Muhammad Luqman Hakim, S.T., the Chair of the Committee, stated that the goal of the event was to foster team unity within each band. “This band competition aims to make us more cohesive, to become more solid, even though we’re competing,” Lukman said.

The judging criteria for the band competition included the use of musical instruments made from recycled materials, UNDIP-themed lyrics, group harmony and musical synchronization, stage performance (interaction, stage presence, etc.), and musical aesthetics.

He also noted that judges for this band competition were selected from outside the campus, including some from UNNES, to maintain the committee’s impartiality. “We selected external, professional judges to ensure neutrality,” he concluded. (DHW-Public Relations)
