Creating Innovation in Antibacterial Herbal Medicine Packaging, UNDIP Student Wins 1st Place in Indonesian Herbal Medicine Ambassador 2024

Anetha Bulan, commonly known as Bulan, a 5th-semester student majoring in Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), has achieved first place in the Jamu Ambassador selection held by the Dewan Jamu. The event took place at the Westin Resort Bali from December 16–17, 2024, with the primary goal of discovering the next Jamu Ambassador of Indonesia for 2024. Bulan secured the top position due to her outstanding research on the use of antibacterial packaging for safer and longer-lasting Jamu storage. In addition, Bulan demonstrated exceptional performance, knowledge, and charisma, making her a deserving representative of Indonesia on the global stage.

Bulan prepared for this achievement under the guidance of her lecturers, including Dr. dr. Renni Yuniat, Sp.DVE, M.H., Prof. Dr. Bambang Cahyono, M.Si., and Prof. Dr. Meyni Susery. The panel of judges was impressed by her insights and the quality of her work.

The Jamu Ambassador selection event spanned two days, involving written tests and interviews. On the first day, participants were evaluated based on their depth of knowledge about Jamu and public speaking skills under the direct supervision of the Dewan Jamu. After a rigorous assessment, the top ten candidates were selected to proceed to the second day. On the final day, the competition became even more challenging, narrowing down to the top three finalists, where Bulan emerged as the winner and secured first place.

Bulan’s research focused on the use of antibacterial packaging for Jamu preservation, aimed at maintaining Jamu’s quality and ensuring it reaches consumers in excellent condition.

Bulan aspires to bring Jamu to the international stage and educate a broader audience in Indonesia about its benefits and cultural significance.

The Director of Student Affairs and Alumni at UNDIP, Edy Surahmad, S.Pd., M.Si., expressed congratulations, gratitude, and pride for Bulan’s achievement. “It is a source of pride for UNDIP to have students who excel not only academically but also possess skills that support government policies as outlined in Presidential Regulation No. 54 of 2023 on the Development and Utilization of Jamu. This achievement also commemorates Jamu’s designation as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO and aligns with global advancements,” said Edy.

He added that this recognition not only serves as an appreciation but also as motivation and encouragement for other students to excel while preserving local culture and heritage products that hold valuable significance. (ed UT-Media Relations)
