Jepara, Jawa Tengah (December 27, 2024) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held a seminar on “Business Potential, Research, and Community Service in the Fisheries Industry Sector” at the Teluk Awur Campus, attended by the Indonesian Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono. The event also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) and Cooperation Agreement between UNDIP and PT Dua Putra Perkasa Pratama.
The seminar was attended by notable figures, including Suharjito, S.E., Founder of PT Dua Putra Perkasa Pratama; the Kapolda Jawa Tengah; Acting Regent (PJ Bupati) of Jepara Regency, Edy Supriyanta, ATD, S.H., M.M.; the Chair of UNDIP’s Board of Trustees; UNDIP Vice Rectors, Deans of Faculties and Schools; and other guests.
In his keynote address, Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono outlined the Blue Economy Policy for Golden Indonesia 2045. He emphasized the rapid population growth in Indonesia, predicting that by 2050, the population could reach 9.7 billion, significantly increasing food demand. Food security, therefore, must become a central focus.
The Minister highlighted two current government programs: the food estate initiative for food security and health programs as a supporting pillar for food resilience. He underscored the need to meet three essential dietary components—carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The challenge is that, until now, our society has not been able to fully manage these three elements because some food ingredients still depend on imports.
Sakti Wahyu Trenggono called on universities, including UNDIP, to encourage researchers to conduct studies that can address these issues. He noted UNDIP’s strong potential in fisheries and marine resources, supported by sustainable aquaculture practices that align with food security objectives.
UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed support for the Blue Economy Policy. He highlighted UNDIP’s Fisheries and Marine Technology and Business Study Program at the Teluk Awur Campus, Jepara, which aligns with these policies.
“This study program acts as a catalyst to strengthen the blue economy, contributing significantly to the institution, society, and national development,” said Prof. Suharnomo. The program focuses on developing expertise in modern, innovative, productive, sustainable, and environmentally friendly fisheries and marine technology and business.
“This study program aims to produce high-quality graduates capable of enhancing national competitiveness while fostering technopreneurship skills to become job creators,” he added.
The event continued with the signing of the MoU and Cooperation Agreement between UNDIP and PT Dua Putra Perkasa Pratama, a leading company in import, export, and food distribution. This partnership seeks to strengthen synergies between education and industry to create competitive human resources.
