Detrina Sabda Nugrah emerged as one of the top graduates in Communication Science from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Diponegoro. He is a karate athlete with notable achievements at both national and international levels. Detrina has completed his studies with a GPA of 3.25, despite his busy schedule of training and competing in the Karate Kata category.
He was admitted to Universitas Diponegoro in 2018 through the Outstanding Talent and Achievement Selection Program (Seleksi Bibit Unggul Berprestasi / SBUB). “My academic journey at Universitas Diponegoro was truly extraordinary. It is one of the top universities in Indonesia, and I am grateful for the vast knowledge and experiences I gained, both academically and non-academically,” said Detrina.
Although his academic journey was challenging, the support from his family, friends, and academic supervisors was a great source of motivation that helped him. These motivations encourage him to complete his studies amidst his demanding schedule as a professional karate athlete.
From the beginning of his college years, Detrina actively participated in various karate championships. Some of his remarkable achievements include a bronze medal at the Asian Championship in Kazakhstan, a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Championship held in Indonesia, and victories at the National Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Nasional / PON) in Papua (2021) and Sumatera Utara (2024).
“Winning at PON is extremely tough. It requires immense sacrifices, especially when I had to undergo intensive training for the 2024 PON in Sumatera Utara while finishing my thesis,” she recalled. However, her hard work paid off in both academics and sports.
Detrina’s list of achievements includes:

- 2nd Place in Individual Kata, National Championship Forki ATR 2024
- 3rd Place in National Championship Forki Padang 2023
- 1st Place in Kata Team, POMNAS Padang 2022
- 2nd Place in Individual Kata, PON Papua 2021
- 2nd Place in Individual Kata, National Championship TNI Commander’s Cup 2019
- 2nd Place in Individual Kata, National Championship of Minister of Home Affairs 2017
- 1st Place in Individual Kata, Southeast Asia 2017
- 3rd Place in Individual Kata, Asian Karate Federation Kazakhstan 2017
- 3rd Place in Individual Kata, Asian Karate Federation Makassar 2016
Detrina is currently undergoing intensive training in Bali in preparation for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, scheduled for December.
In his concluding remarks, Detrina shared a motivational message for the younger generation. “Step out of your comfort zone, discover, and enhance your potential because it is the capital for your future. I believe that while making history for the nation, do not forget to create history for yourself and your family,” she said.
