With the Inauguration of 36 Professors, UNDIP Strengthens Its Position as an Internationally Recognized Center of Knowledge

Semarang (January 18, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has once again achieved an extraordinary milestone by inaugurating 36 Professors from various faculties and fields of expertise. This time, the Faculty of Engineering dominated with the addition of 15 Professors. This achievement is a tangible step towards UNDIP’s goal of achieving World-Class University (WCU) status, with the diversity of knowledge as the central pillar to address various challenges of the times.

The Rector of UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si, expressed his pride in the achievements of the UNDIP Professors for their outstanding contributions. “The inauguration of 36 Professors is clear evidence of UNDIP’s dedication to advancing science and making a real impact on society. With this diversity in the development of knowledge, UNDIP has strengthened its position to compete at the international level and reinforce the spirit of UNDIP’s tagline: UNDIP, Noble and Valuable,” he added.

Faculty of Engineering Dominates in Number of New Professors

The Professors appointed come from various faculties, each with a diverse range of expertise, and detailed presentations of their respective fields will be presented during the ceremony.

In this appointment, the Faculty of Engineering stands out, contributing 15 Professors, covering various fields such as renewable energy systems and technology, circular supply chain management, and sustainable urban planning. This faculty demonstrates its commitment to addressing modern infrastructure needs and providing sustainable energy solutions.

The Faculty of Science and Mathematics added 7 new Professors, contributing to the development of knowledge in applied mathematics, physical chemistry of materials, and physics. This expertise is a key foundation for technological innovations across various sectors of society. The Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences contributed 5 Professors focused on food security and environmental management, with expertise in organic farming, livestock, waste management, and food technology.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, with its newly inaugurated 3 Professors, contributes to the development of knowledge in marine microbiology and marine resource management. Both faculties play crucial roles in supporting the development of expertise in aquatic organism diseases, marine culture resource management, and marine microbiology.

The Faculty of Public Health contributes expertise in malaria control and public health behavior. Faculty of Medicine, with 1 Professor, adds to UNDIP’s expertise in Andrology Reproductive Medicine. The Faculty of Economics and Business contributed a Professor in central banking and monetary policy, strengthening UNDIP’s position in economic research and education.

In the field of social and cultural sciences, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences contributed a Professor in environmental policy. At the same time, the Faculty of Humanities added expertise in micro-linguistics. These experts in social and cultural fields enrich multidisciplinary approaches to address social challenges.

Contribution to Research and UNDIP’s International Position

Meanwhile, Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Collaboration, and Public Communication, Wijayanto, Ph.D, stated that this is a concrete manifestation of UNDIP’s role in advancing science. The Professors have dedicated decades of their lives to research and contributing to the progress of knowledge. “UNDIP becomes great not because of its magnificent buildings or wide, smooth campus roads, but because of the thoughts of its scholars, passed down from generation to generation, which shape and help build civilization,” he concluded.

“Today, we are witnessing the historic moment of another generation of UNDIP scholars being appointed as Professors whose knowledge is recognized both nationally and globally. This achievement is a manifestation of UNDIP’s dignity and its benefit to society. UNDIP is excellent in the reproduction of scientific knowledge that is beneficial for the advancement of humanity, society, and the nation,” he added.

With this appointment, UNDIP is even more prepared to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthen its reputation as a globally relevant educational institution. The expertise of these professors spread across various fields of study, which forms a strong foundation to expand cross-disciplinary research collaborations and accelerate impactful innovations.
