Semarang (3/2) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held an Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) Training for Lecturers and Staff with Additional Duties for the Year 2025, at the Patrajasa Hotel Hall, Semarang, on Monday, February 3, 2025.
The ESQ training was attended by the Rector, the Board of Trustees, the Academic Senate, and a total of 600 lecturers and staff with additional duties. The event featured renowned motivator Dr. (H.C.) Ary Ginanjar Agustian, President of ESQ Corporation, was the keynote speaker.
In his speech, UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., stated that UNDIP is steadily advancing towards the top ranks. At the beginning of the year, UNDIP successfully climbed to the 4th position among the best universities according to Webometric rankings. Additional good news came from the Faculty of Medicine, where three UNDIP PPDS students secured first, second, and third place in the E-Poster Research category at the prestigious “The 9th Biennial Symposium of Anesthesia and Coexisting Diseases,” hosted by the Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran University, on January 31 – February 1, 2025.
Prof. Suharnomo encouraged all lecturers and staff to unite in building UNDIP’s progress, emphasizing that an institution of UNDIP’s scale—comprising 2,000 lecturers, 2,000 staff, and 67,000 students—cannot be managed by just one or a small group of people but requires the collective effort of all elements within the institution.
He stressed that UNDIP belongs to everyone and achieving its goals requires a shift in mindset and the cultivation of a positive culture. Work should not be seen as mere routine but as a means to deliver value and provide benefits. He highlighted that establishing a strong work culture requires energy, and UNDIP’s achievements and aspirations to be number one are built on the competence and energy of its lecturers and staff.
“Just one person can’t drive UNDIP—it requires everyone. We are all thinkers, and we are all implementers of what we envision. We have Values, DNA Talent, and a Growth Mindset—hopefully, these will merge to form a new UNDIP, leading us to become number one,” said Prof. Suharnomo.
Vice Rector III for Human Resources, Information Technology, Law, and Organization, Prof. Dr. Adian Fatchur Rochim, S.T., M.T., stated in his report that the ESQ Training for Lecturers and Staff with Additional Duties is a crucial first step in establishing core values at UNDIP.
“This morning marks the kick-off or the beginning of building UNDIP’s core values. Without core values, UNDIP cannot fulfill the mandate of the Board of Trustees to rank among the world’s top 500 universities by 2025,” said Prof. Adian.
“We hope that these core values will be nurtured with guidance from ESQ 165. Gradually, we will continue to grow and establish values that align with our shared goals. Managing UNDIP, a large organization, is only possible through strong core values,” he added.
The ESQ Training aims to develop leadership qualities and character among participants by enhancing their emotional, spiritual, and intellectual capacities while reinforcing UNDIP’s core values of Integrity, Courage, Care, and Justice.
