Exhibition Held by UNDIP Community Service Students: Technology for Community Empowerment

UNDIP, Semarang (February 10) – The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata / KKN) students of UNDIP Team I for the 2024/2025 academic year held an exhibition titled “Community Empowerment through Innovation and Technology,” showcasing creative products, innovations, and contributions to society. The event took place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Badminton Sports Hall in Tambah Rejo Village, Bandar District, Batang Regency. It involved various stakeholders, including local communities, academics, and the Batang Regency government.

The UNDIP Rector and officials attended the exhibition, as did the Acting Regent of Batang, Dra. Lani Dwi Rejeki, M.M., along with her team, sub-district heads from Subah, Kandeman, Gringsing, and Bandar, community representatives, and UNDIP Community Service students.

The event aimed to showcase the innovations and programs developed by students during their 40-day implementation of Community Service activities in several villages across four districts in Batang Regency. It featured exhibitions, presentations, booth visits, and interactive discussions, highlighting student contributions to community empowerment, creative economy, environmental sustainability, education, and appropriate technology.

UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., emphasized the significance of student engagement in community development. “This event is a tangible form of synergy between students and society in creating innovative, science-based solutions. We hope this initiative has a positive impact and helps improve community welfare.”

“As a higher education institution, the campus is committed to preparing excellent graduates to contribute to the development of society and the nation through education, research and community service,” said the Rector. The UNDIP Rector also expressed his gratitude to the Batang Regency Government for accepting and welcoming the presence of UNDIP Community Service students.

Acting Regent of Batang Regency, Dra. Lani Dwi Rejeki, M.M. acknowledged the students’ valuable contributions during their Community Service implementation and highlighted the importance of the Penta helix collaboration—involving government, academia, business, communities, and media—to put collective strengths and resources for shared progress.

The exhibition featured 30 booths showcasing outstanding projects from different villages in the four districts. Some highlighted innovations included:

  1. Supplementary food production: Thai cassava and cassava nuggets
  2. Corn cob waste utilization: Turning agricultural waste into briquettes
  3. Digital marketing strategies for local businesses
  4. Used cooking oil repurposing: Transforming waste oil into candles
  5. Mapping MSME distribution for economic development
  6. Miniature wind turbines for renewable energy education
  7. Eco-enzymes from organic waste
  8. Onion peel-based pesticides
  9. Solar-powered insect trap lights
  10. GRANTING (Gerakan Anti Stunting)/ (Anti-Stunting Movement)
  11. Village community garden designs
  12. Aquaponic farming systems
  13. Charcoal production from furniture wood waste

With approximately 400 Community Service students participating across multiple villages in Batang Regency, the hope is that their innovative solutions and appropriate technologies will be beneficial and sustainable within local communities. (Ut-media relations)
