UNDIP, Semarang (February 14) – The Antawirya Team from Universitas Diponegoro has once again achieved remarkable success at the international competition Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific & Middle East 2025, held at Lusail International Circuit, Doha, Qatar, from February 8–12, 2025. The team triumphed over 61 teams from various countries.
In this energy-efficient vehicle innovation competition, Antawirya Team secured 1st place in the Prototype Battery Electric/Electric Vehicle (EV) category with an efficiency record of 835 km/kWh and 2nd place in the Urban Concept Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) category with an efficiency of 415 km/l. Additionally, they also won 2nd place in the Off-Track Award for Technical Innovation with their project titled “Manumatic Dog Clutch: Optimization of the Transmission System in Rondhan Electric Vehicle to Reduce Drag Losses and Improve Power Efficiency.” This achievement highlights the excellence of UNDIP’s Mechanical Engineering students in sustainable automotive technology and energy efficiency.
Antawirya Team’s victory in the Electric Vehicle category showcases their outstanding innovation in developing efficient and eco-friendly electric vehicles. Meanwhile, their runner-up position in the Urban ICE category proves their ability to create highly fuel-efficient internal combustion engine technology.
The Rector of UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his pride in Antawirya Team’s international achievement. “The outstanding success of the Antawirya Team in the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific & Middle East 2025 is clear evidence that UNDIP students can compete globally with cutting-edge innovation and research. This achievement is not only a source of pride for UNDIP but also serves as an inspiration for the younger generation to continue innovating in eco-friendly technology and energy efficiency, which can be a solution to future energy challenges,” he stated.
Meanwhile, UNDIP’s Vice-Rector IV, Wijayanto, Ph.D., stated, “The success of Team Antawirya at the Shell Eco-Marathon 2025 in Qatar is truly a moment of great pride. They are not just national champions but world champions on the global stage in Qatar. This achievement wakes us up to the fact that UNDIP is like a giant awakening, showing its true class. Hopefully, this will inspire all of us—the academic community of UNDIP—to awaken this sleeping giant.”
On this occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamari, S.T., M.T., IPU, ASEAN Eng, emphasized that the remarkable accomplishments of the Antawirya Team at both national and international levels result from a long and often challenging process that involved collaboration across multiple study programs within the Faculty of Engineering. “Always be inspired to reach the peak, but also be prepared to mature yourself when in the valleys. Keep working hard and innovating because results never betray effort,” said Prof. Jamari.
Haikal Aulya Rahman, General Manager of UNDIP’s Antawirya Team, expressed his gratitude and pride in the team’s achievements, particularly in their research and innovation efforts to develop vehicles that are not only efficient but also internationally competitive.
“Participating in SEM APME 2025 and representing Indonesia was an unforgettable experience. We put in our best effort not only to bring pride to our university but also to represent Indonesia. Winning 1st and 2nd place is the result of our team’s hard work, dedication, and the support of UNDIP,” said Haikal.
The Shell Eco-Marathon is a prestigious competition that brings together student teams from universities worldwide to develop vehicles capable of traveling the farthest distances using the least amount of energy. More than 60 student teams from various countries participated in this competition, including 16 teams from Indonesia.
Indonesian student teams competed against teams from several Asia-Pacific and Middle Eastern countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, China, the Philippines, India, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Malaysia, Egypt, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.
Antawirya Team’s success in this event further strengthens UNDIP’s position as a leading university in sustainable automotive technology research.
