UNDIP Develops Campus Radio, TOP FM 97,7

UNDIP, Semarang (April 24, 2025)As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance public information dissemination and boost academic community engagement in broadcasting, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has initiated a broadcasting collaboration through an initial meeting between the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) and Top Radio. The meeting was held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in the Senate Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of Building A, FISIP UNDIP Campus, Tembalang.

This meeting was a follow-up to university-level discussions, mainly from Field II and IV, regarding the revitalization of UNDIP Radio, addressing both operational aspects and content development. The initiative reflects UNDIP’s strong commitment to transforming campus media into a strategic platform for fostering educational dialogue that reaches a broader public audience.

Top Radio Director Joko Sumpeno attended the meeting with his team and was welcomed by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FISIP UNDIP, S. Rouli Manalu, S.Sos., MCommSt., Ph.D. During the session, both parties explored potential areas of collaboration, particularly in content production and student involvement as broadcasters and media contributors.

In her opening remarks, Rouli emphasized the significance of this initial step in establishing a productive and sustainable campus broadcasting system. “We hope that these early discussions can be swiftly translated into action and lead to the launch of a broadcast program,” Rouli stated.

She further elaborated that FISIP UNDIP will begin drafting a program design that may become part of the broadcast content on Top Radio, serving as a form of academic contribution to the public. This initiative is also intended to provide hands-on training opportunities for students in communication, media, and public broadcasting.

Top Radio Director Joko Sumpeno expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, which aims to revive the spirit of campus-based broadcasting. He emphasized that radio is not merely a one-way medium but an interactive platform that requires skilled human resources. “Radio is a companion. It involves interaction. It needs capable human resources. Beyond content, we need broadcasters for radio is a companion in our daily lives,” he explained.

Joko also noted that Top Radio currently targets a listener segment ranging from youth to young families, opening up ample room for collaboration with academic institutions in producing content that is educational, creative, and closely aligned with societal realities.

This meeting is a follow-up to cross-field discussions at the university level, including with the Directorate of Media Network, Community and Public Communication, which is a partner of FISIP UNDIP in developing Radio TOP FM. In the future, radio will also complement UNDIP’s Public Communication channel.

In addition, Top FM will also become UNDIP’s Public Communication channel through the collaboration of TOP FM content with the Directorate of Media Network, Community and Public Communication to support UNDIP’s vision and mission and the UNDIP Rector’s tagline, “UNDIP, Noble and Valuable.”

This initiative reflects Diponegoro University’s progressive steps in developing campus media as a means of public communication and education. Thus, UNDIP not only expands the reach of its academic and social messages but also prepares a young generation that is adaptive to changes in the modern media and communication landscape.
