UNDIP, Semarang (May 23, 2025) – Dr. Choirul Anam, a lecturer and researcher from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Universitas Diponegoro (FSM UNDIP), has once again brought pride to the institution with a series of international accolades. In 2024, Dr. Anam was named a recipient of the Outstanding Reviewer Award from the Institute of Physics (IoP) Publishing for his contributions to maintaining the scientific quality of the Journal of Radiological Protection (JRP). Additionally, he ranked 99th in the world as one of the most productive and impactful researchers in the field of CT scanning, according to ScholarGPS®, a global academic analytics platform.
The IoP Outstanding Reviewer Award is presented to scientists who demonstrate exceptional dedication and excellence in peer review. Dr. Anam’s name was listed alongside seven other global scientists from prestigious institutions, including the UK Health Security Agency (United Kingdom), Lund University (Sweden), and the University of Tarapacá (Chile). The Journal of Radiological Protection is a reputable international journal in the field of radiation protection, known for its rigorous and selective review standards.
Meanwhile, ScholarGPS® ranked Dr. Anam 99th globally in the CT scan research category over the past five years. The ranking is based on three key factors: publication productivity, scientific impact of published work, and overall academic contribution. Dr. Anam’s name appears alongside some of the world’s foremost CT scan experts, including Prof. Cynthia H. McCollough (United States), Prof. John Damilakis (Greece), and Prof. Joel Graffier (France).
Dr. Anam’s reputation stems from over a decade of consistent research in medical physics, particularly in CT scanning. In 2016, he developed IndoseCT, a software application for calculating patient radiation doses, which earned international recognition from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) as one of the best works in the field of medical imaging physics.
Following the success of IndoseCT, Dr. Anam launched IndoQCT, an innovative software for automated CT image quality evaluation. The software has reached over 70 countries and is widely used by researchers, students, and medical practitioners. Both tools are available at www.indosect.com.
Dr. Anam also received the IUPAP Early Career Scientist Award in Medical Physics 2022 from the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP), recognizing him as the world’s top young researcher in medical physics for that year.
To date, Dr. Anam has authored more than 120 international scientific publications with over 770 citations and holds an h-index of 16. These achievements reflect the quality and consistency of his work in advancing global scientific knowledge and medical practices.
“These accomplishments show that UNDIP faculty members are competitive and recognized on an international level. It proves that we are not only producing academics but also scientists with global impact,” said the UNDIP Rector.
Dr. Choirul Anam’s achievements are a tangible reflection of Universitas Diponegoro’s vision and commitment to fostering high-quality, impactful research. Aligned with the university’s spirit, his success exemplifies the UNDIP motto: “UNDIP, Noble and Valuable.” (Public Communication/ FSM Dr. Choirul Anam/ ed. Nurul)
